Well, i am the proud owner of Swift vxi (Petrol) since 2006,

As far as the varients LXI & VXI are compaired then LXI has better options like power windows that can be easily fitted to the vehicle in local market within a price range of  7000 to 7500/- Where as the VXI varient is priced around 30 to 40K higher then the LXI Varient.

Coming to the features of the car it is undisputed fact that it is a King in cars right now & it will also dominate Hatcback cars segment for about another 5 to 7 years,

But Maruti Udyog should consider giving some discounts or cutting some of the prices of Varients like LXI, LDI to be affordable to the Middle Class section of our Indian Society!

Overall the Car can be easily compaired to the Euro & North American Cars Standards.

I purchased my Swift VDi w/ABS in October 2008. Its been about 8 months now and the ODO has clocked 21,000km.

The exterior is quite decent with sporty styling and the ORVMs provide a detailed view which comes handy in dense traffic scenarios.
Interiors are very monotonous with the all-grey theme, could have done better more of upholstery and higher grade of plastics.
Power window buttons get stuck very often due to this.
Rear seats are relatively cramped due to the shorter wheel-base  as compared to cars like Indica, Getz and Fabia. Boot space is insufficient.
Instrument gauge feels very rich with the chrome trims in the Speedo and the Tacho.
The air-con is excellent at any level of airflow from the blower and doesn't make the car feel heavy AT ALL.

As for the engine, it has got to be one of the best diesel engines with excellent refinement and ample power/torque delivery. The car has a very clean pull starting from 1500revs till the red-line and the mid-range performance is no slouch at all, feels very responsive!
The steering has a smooth feel to it making the handling even easier.
      Overall its an Excellent VFM!!
FE is very surprising for a car with a mind-blowing acceleration.
I drive mostly in city and occasionally highway.

Fuel Consumed till date: 1260 litres
      ODO Reading: 21047
      Overall FE: 16.7 kmpl

In city: gives me around 15 kmpl w/ AC turned on the whole time during summers.
Highway: I've attained 19-20 kmpl w/AC at speeds like 100-110 kmph. Should be 22kmpl + at speeds like 90-95kmph.

I bought Swift VDi on 18 Feb 09 from Pathankot Vehicleads. The dealer treated us very well. I drove the car from Pathankot-Ambala-Chandigarh-Pathankot and covered around 600km. The car has given me about 20kmpl with three adults , 2 children and about 50kg of luggage. And mind you, the engine was brand new and it was driven at 90-115 kmph for most of the journey. 20kmpl before the first servicing is too good.

I found the engine is very powerful and almost noiceless if you pull up the windows. There are no vibrations at all and the car is very stable. In fact you don't realise the speed if you don't see the speedometer. It has enough leg space for the rear and front passengers and seats are firm and comfortable.AC/Heater, powern steering , etc are very effective.

However, I found the rear windows a bit small. Hatchback glass is also quite small. Although the car has a very good engine that gives excellent milage but still I feel that Maruti could have designed it more aerodynamically as is Honda City. Also, the tinted glasses are practically non effective. They just stop any sunlight. I feel tinting of glasses in Swift is less effective as compared to old Zen or 800 AC models.

Overall it is a good family car that gives you a royal feeling when you sit in it.

Good fuel economy, comfortable ride, Good interiorssmall rear windows, small hatchbach glass window

I understand that this is not the forum for Hyundai i10 review.  But there is one important message that i want to pass on to as many people as possible, so that they don't commit the same  mistake. I  recently booked an Hyundai  i10 Era from a DSA  i.e  a sub-dealer.  Large discount is what that attracted me to these theives.  I just somehow managed to get the delivery of my vehicle (though my payment was outright and the whole payment being made on the booking day itself).  I  had many sleepless nights from the day of booking till the day of delivery.  Believe me, if  God forbid, you get stuck with these guys,  there is really nobody who can help you in this case, NOT EVEN  HYUNDAI.  i really regret my decision of not booking my car at an authorised Hyundai Showroom.  My advice to all those who are reading this review is to learn from my mistake and to educate/ spread awareness about this issue amongst friends.  When we are spending so much amount, why can't we spend a little extra just to ensure that our hard-earned money is in safe hands.

Exterior: Bold and a nice mix of asian-euro styles. Perfect curves and nice impact appreance.

However, one can say that it has beomce old some change. As far as I am concerend I like it very much.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort): Modest and something one can adjust to. Nice legroom for average north-Indian in the rear seat. Plastic used in interior can be of better quality. The USP in interiors is a clean dashboard without much clutter and nice positioning of controls. I liked it

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox: This is the assest of this model. the new 1.2 k series Engine is perfectly smooth & fuel efficeint without any compromise on power. This new engine is very much improved from the earlier 1.3 version withoput any loss of power. I don't know how they (maruti) did it. One should drive to get the feel . Words are not enough

      Ride Quality & Handling

Needs improvement however, one can not feel it much with nicer raods being laid all around.

      Final Words

A perfect car that has rocked all generations. One must own or drive atleast to feel it. A bold car for bold people.

      Areas of improvement

      Only ride quality

A very refined and fuel efficient engine. Easy gers shiftsModest interiors and ride quality

I purchased a Swift VDi 6 weeks ago and have already clocked over 4000 km on it. I just returned after a long drive (Jamshedpur-Kolkata-Delhi-Jamshedpur) and my impressions are as follows :

      1) During the 3836 km long drive, my Swift VDi exceeded my expectations. The performance of the engine, both at low and high speeds, has been simply great. I drove between 100-120 kmph over vast distances and did spurts of 130-140 kmph over short periods. At 140 kmph, the car felt rock steady and the engine was smooth, no louder than a similar petrol engine and far from struggling – actually, it was begging for more. The acceleration (pick-up) is superb at all speeds.

      2) The brakes are powerful. Though I have not tried out hard braking even once in my new car, the rate of decceleration experienced by me at high speeds even by gentle braking has given me enough confidence on the braking system of my Swift.

      3) The electronic power steering is quite effective at all speeds.

      4) I have found the aircon quite effective so far but I would reserve my final verdict on it only after checking out its performance during the summer of 2008 at Jamshedpur.

      5) The suspension seems to be strong and solid – only time will tell how sturdy it proves over the bad roads of Jharkhand in the long run.

      6) As far as fuel economy is concerned, my Swift VDi is a real champ. Getting an average of 21.2 kmpl over this entire trip (which includes city driving, long bad stretches requiring driving in 1st / 2nd gear, etc.) with the AC on around 70% of the time for this 1075 kg (kerb weight) car is truly a marvel of technology. Please note that I mostly drove between 90-120 kmph on the good stretches and was not trying to set a mileage record (by driving at a steady speed of 60 kmph or so). Even then, I measured mileage of 24 kmpl on some stretches.

      7) I must caution everyone with a diesel Swift that some Maruti workshops are not yet conversant with its maintenance. I took my Swift VDi to Karlo Automobiles, Bodhgaya for First Service on 29.10.07. I was horrified to find that they knew virtually NOTHING about the Swift diesel and its maintenance. They drained my engine oil and were about to pour new oil meant for petrol engines (MGP engine oil for Maruti 800) into my engine when I intervened and prevented them from pouring that oil in my engine. Thereafter, they brought a can of Indian Oil Servo Pride 40. I pointed out to them that Maruti Udyog specifies SF 15W40 oil meeting specs of API-CG4 and ACEA B3 for the Swift. That sounded like Greek and Latin to them. They informed me that they had put Servo Pride 40 engine oil in several diesel Swifts and they were working fine ! God help diesel Swift owners in India with such service from Maruti.

I have been driving Swift for the past 8/9 months. Have been regularly driving from Bangalore to Chennai as well as long drives like Belur, Halebedu, Coorg, etc from B'lore. The drive comfort n handling of car is amazing. Shud hv been a bit more spacious in boot and rear seat.Tubeless tyres is a very good benefit if ur driving long distance particularly...U cna drive 50KM around with the tyre punctured..Quite easy to change tyre.I had got benefitted twice by this feature..Fun to drive, amazing handling, good pick up n speed, tubeless tyres is an invaluable benefitLess Boot, less spacious at the rear

After doing some research, I found out that in the mid segment between 4.5 to 5.0 Lacs, there is no match to Swift Vxi in terms of reliability and performance.I didn't opt for the diesel version because I drive less. Maruti dealers in Noida are very busy people making big money and generally don't value customer's time. Imagine, my dealer was even reluctant to sell accessories!! I had to wait 3 hours to get my car fitted with accessories like gear lock, parking sensor etc. On the positive side the dealer gave some freebies and a good exchange price for my old M800. On road it cost me around Rs.4.9 lacs fitted with accessories like stereo, parking sensors etc. Apart from the dealer, I am fully satisfied with my car.

The engine is so silent and vibration free that it is difficult to know at signals. The car responds well to throttle, braking response is good. Parking sensors are very useful while reversing. Swift is a fast car, it silently speeds up to 70kmph even before you notice! I drive carefully and avoid over speeding. I use all the three mirrors while driving and parking. So far I am lucky to avoid even minor scratches.

On the negative side, the car is a petrol guzzler, it gives around 10-11 kmpl with AC on and blower at position 3. Always I drive with AC on and stereo blaring, of course with windows pulled up. I admit being addicted to AC and stereo. Swift is for those having petrol station and ATM near by like me. If you want to save on petrol then hold on to old Maruti-800. I was told that fuel economy will improve after 3000kms and third servicing. Let's hope so. I will keep keep you guys informed.Easy to drive, silent, excellent pickup, good brakesFrequent trips to petrol pump

I am a proud owner of Maruti Swift LXi and am writing this review after two full years and after driving for 26000+ kms. Swift is one of the best cars in a mid-size category and offers fantastic value for money. Style, Performance, Mileage, Seating Space.....these elements are among the best in class.  What leaves much to desire is boot space, wish it could've been more for touring and highway driving. Another factor that can improve is suspension / comfort as far as a big car is concerned.  Notwithstanding these two factors, there is no car in the price range of 4.6 lacs that can provide such an excellent value for money - consider the fact that it is still the hot selling car with 3 month waiting period, highest resale value in its class, excellent mileage (18 on hwy, 15 city with AC) and superb performance, backed by Maruti Service Assurance. You can be carefree after buying Swift. Other cars in this price range are just not worthy of comparison as of now.  I've driven on expressways at 125+kmph with complete ease and road grip as well as on bumper to bumper traffic on city roads at low speed (high torque) without engine knocking.  On style and looks, I would say some people dislike it, but I like it immensely., it's just different and looks classy.  Interiors are typical maruti class, nothing much to talk about. Sophistication is just missing, but you can't get everything in one package.  Given the price and overall performance, I would rate this car as the BEST IN CLASS.  Go for it if you want to use it for city roads as well as for highways and love value for money buys.Superb performance combined with mileage, space and styleboot space and slightly bumpy when compared with cars in its class
