Four-door MINI to make its debut at Geneva?

MINI, the name may reflect its size but its rapid advancement and production capacity are way too big. The company, in November, revealed the 2014 Cooper  hatchback and now, it has confirmed wrapping up the development of a four-door version of this car and the possible date of unveiling could be next year’s Geneva Motor Show.

If we were to talk about dimensions, MINI is no longer sticking to its size. Riding on the much talked about UKL1 platform, this car will be slightly longer and taller than its two-door sibling thereby giving more passenger space. The four-door MINI will borrow the same retro styling from its sibling.

As a standard engine it will have a turbocharged, three-cylinder petrol unit which will churn out 134bhp and 230Nm of top torque,while the all-new 1.5-litre three-cylinder unit will be seen at the entry-level. More potent versions of the four-door MINI will use a new four-cylinder mill rated at 189bhp and 280.34Nm of torque, and buyers will be able to opt for a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbodiesel that generates 116 horsepower and 269Nm of torque if MINI decides to sell oil-burners on this side of the Atlantic.

More details about the four-door MINI will start trickling in over the next few weeks. The car will likely replace the Clubman, but MINI has not announced whether it will retain the historic nameplate or adopt a new moniker entirely.
