      I was happy with my hatchback, but lately for sometime I was getting a feeling of complete satisfaction of owning this vehicle, therefore developed a craving for a better sedan with good diesel engine. Tried different brands of cars including hatchbacks and sedans After giving lots of sweat and energy in the test drive, nothing really finalised.

      One fine day saw the launch ad of Ford Ikon TDCI, got excited to give it a try and went to this showroom and tried this maroon Ikon TDCI.

      The sheer pleasure of starting the engine and accelerating it, to a speed defying state. It was really smooth and gliding experience with the kind of raw power getting tamed. The test drive was truly awe-inspiring and henceforth I finally took the decision of booking this cult machine.

      The final test of owning and driving is still to come, so I will keep updating whether the test drive was a flash in the pan or Ikon TDCI is worth its salt.

       

      Solid Construction, Awesome Diesel Power, Superb Pickup and StylishThe Derier is outdated, thats it!

      Exterior GOOD EXTERIOR SPECIALLY HEADLIGHTS VERY ATTARCTIVE,TOTALLY SPORTY LOOK,I REALLY LIKE IT.

       

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) INTERIOR ARE VERY NICE.DOUBLE TON INTERIORS AND GOOD SPACE ALSO AND A.C IS VERY POWERFUL,BOOT SPACE IS ALSO GOOD.

       

      Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox ENGINE PERFORANCE IS GOOD,FUEL ECONOMY 21 KM/L ON HIGHWAY WITH A.C, GEAR BOX IS LITTLE BIT HARD,BUT VERY COMFORTABLE.

       

      Ride Quality & Handling GOOD RIDE QUALITY,VERY NICE ROAD GRIP ON 150 SPEED,HANDLING IS TREMENDOUS.

       

      Final Words I WILL SAY THAT IKON IS PRICE WORTHY CAR, AND COVERED ALL FEATURES IN THIS PRICE. I HAVE FORD IKON 1.4 TDCI DIAMOND WHITE AND REALLY NICE PERFORMACE IN THIS SEGMENT AND NO EXCESS ENGINE VOICE ALSO, FINALLY I WILL SAY THAT IN THIS PRICE NO BODY IS GIVING THIS TYPE OF FEATURES LIKE IKON. IT IS VERY ECONOMICAL ALSO, WHEN I PURCHASED THIS CAR, I DRIVE 1500 KM WITH THE AVERAGE OF 21 KM/L WITH A.C.

       

      Areas of improvement  

      1.GATE HANDLES(SHOULD BE LIKE FIGO OR FIESTA).

      2.SHOULD BE ONE OR MORE COLOURS ALSO LIKE-RED OR DARK BLUE.

       

      Interirors,Sporty look,shockers,Hydraulic POWER streeing for good control.Gate Handles(Should be like FIGO or Fiesta),Little bit PICK UP

      Bought this car in Aug'05. guess it was one among the last batches to be sold out by Ford cos they stopped this model shortly.

      Amazing Engine. It's almost like a race-car. Belive me you can take on any of the biggies on a long stretch highway. The power output is just superb. it's like the vehicle has got a mind of it's own and understands it when u shift gears down and are in a mood to take on some other cars on the road. Mileage. With my kinda driving gives 13-14 on the highways. so for a normal person should be around 15-16 I wud say!

      Sad news is I'm plannin to put it up for sale. Post 5 years. Lotsa maintainence issues. Porlly cos i used to service at local service stations cos of the extrodinary service rates put up by Ford. They could be amongst one of the biggest losers in terms of After Sale Service.

      Pretty sad bout parting with it cos its just a beauty...but planning to shift to well maintained Honda City or a Civic!!

      Exterior Undoubtedly great style.even a small dent prompts you to repair it at the earnest.

       

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Superb. it almost astonishes you how it could be provided with such a price range.

       

      Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Engine and gearbox sre unparalleled compared to any other car in similar segment. talking of fuel economy, even the company perhaps does not know what a beauty it has produced. in a highway it has never failed to give less then 20km/l with AC on. and what an AC!

       

      Ride Quality & Handling Bumps are negotiated easily, handling is great in cities as well as highways.

       

      Final Words I have started loving my car so much so that my wife is getting jealous of the car, even if she enjoys the drive as much as i do. a great machine for a middle class bloke. in fact i purchased the car by default from simon ford bilaspur and has become a blessing in disguise. i have driven more than 15000km in less than an year and have never found a reason to repent.

       

      Areas of improvement  

      1. tubeless tires will be appreciated

      2. in-built music system will add to the glamour.

      3. it is a pity why ford india is neglecting such a good vehicle at the expence of fiesta and figo. at least it shoud command as much respect as the other two.

      I happen to buy Ford 1.4 TDCI on recommendation from a friend. I test dove his car and was not very impresed initially, looking at the interiors and also the crampy feeling one gets sitting at the driver's seat. But with my budget I was looking at buying a diesel car, and only Indigo was falling in the budget. Just by extending my budget a little iI could buy TDCI, which I did.

      And now 4 months and 5500 KMs later, I am greatly impressed by the vehicle. to start with the biggest plus point - The Engine is truly built like a work horse. My average daily travelling is aout 120 kms, and what a joy I get driving this. The engine makes some noise on low speeds, but once you cross 60, all sounds slip into oblivion, and all one can hear is the gripping noise of the tyres. The Pick up from 60 to 120 is magnificent and never expected of conventional diesel engines.

      The Fuel Economy - I checked it on various occasions under both city and highway conditions and I got startling results - on highway I got 24.05 KM to a litre, while in city it was 22.2 KM/L. This is with AC, and am sure that without AC one would get the same results. Unlike Santro (my other car) there is no impact on the pickup when you start the AC.

      AC is very strong and at the first level only it is very effective.

      On highways this car behaves very steady and handling is majestic, the ground clearance is well above the most of the cars and is apt for the Indian roads.

      What I didnt like was the crampy feeling at the drivers seat because of the positioning of the steering wheel. It would be even more difficult for a taller person of 6 ft +. The interiors are average, and the platics used could be better, but then looking at the price tag its value for money.

      The other thing that is missing is the remote opening of the boot from inside, which should have been there as it is available in every other car in the market.

      Overall: it is wonderful car to own and to drive, especially if you travel much by road. Value for money indeed and I am proud ot own one.

      I have just test driven the ford ikon TDCi 1.4. The moment you press the pedal you will realize the power of the engine. The noise of the engine is little bit more compared to its cousin Fiesta. But it is quite compared to Indigo.
      Instead of waiting for Swift cars interms of months, this is really good car.
      I think its value for the money. Only thing I dont like is the beige interiors which are very prone to dirts. Though it is designed for bright interiors, in Indian conditions, it will definetly get dirty over a period of time.
      The dealer told that it can give a mileage of 20 kmpl as it is lighter than fiesta. Also he told that for every 10k kilometers the service charge will come around Rs2500. This has to be verified.

      Otherwise, I feel it is real worth going for it.
      I have planned to book in the month of Jan so that it can be next year model.

      Hi Guys, 

      I have owned the Ikon for just over a year now and driven around 18000 kms including few long (1300 km one way) trips. This car is sheer pleasure to drive. Truly a driver's car. The power/rpm ratio is the best in its class and even compared to more expensive cars. What I mean there is that it may not be a high bhp car but you get good power at low rpms ..2000-3000 which is where you would typically drive. However, this is why the mileage is not great. It's also not very good with 4 passengers in the car but great for two. I compared the Dzire and Accent. Dzire is pure piece of crap in terms of build quality and design. Yes you will get more space in Dzire but its basically pretending to be something its not. Accent on the other hand though beautiful than ikon does not offer the same driving pleasure. 

      So Ikon is highly recommended for someone who drives a bit rough. Build quality is ok. Not high on safety but excellent handling and control. Heard a lot of negative things about the maintenance but so far never had to spend a rupee.

      i use the new ford ikon. it's actually the same old car with a small change they have made in the interiors escpecially the color, and seat design, but not that pretty good, and remarkable changes have been made in the front side, but to me, it doesn't look good. the comfort of the old ford ikon is not to be seen in the new one.the engine is good than the old ford ikon, feel like a comfortable engine, but gota say, the power is not upto the mark. milliage is good and it is definetly worth money. considerable resale value is also there.

      Exterior Its a cocktail look. Sporty, Classy, Executive, Trendy and at the same time Aero dynamic. Dosent even shake when speeding at 140 km/hr. Simply superb experience on Hyd-Bang highway.

       

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) I would rate Ikon the least here. Ikon did a bad job when coming to interiors. Non uniform dashboard, uncomfortable rear seat for 3, seat adjustable nobs are manual (Its not pull and adjust, we need to rotate the nob to adjust the back), no head rest for rear seat, no cup holders at rear, front two seats are also not completely bucket seats, they are as good as swift or getz or punto seats.

       

      Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Too good to talk about. High enginie performance and very good fuel economy. I feel that the second gear has very less power, unlike other cars. In 2nd gear, I can speed upto 60km/hr in swift where as Ikon goes only till 40km/hr and I'm forced to change the gear to touch high speeds. Hope you got it. Keep changing the gears every often.

       

      Ride Quality & Handling Very good. As I said, it doesnt even vibrate when speeding over 140km/hr. Simply superb car for the price that we've paid.

       

      Final Words I dont know why am I even talking about it now as the car manufaturing is closed. Not sure what the plans are but hopefull it should come back with all the negatives fixed.

       

      Areas of improvement Interior (Features, Space & Comfort).

       

      Excellent Fuel Economy, Value for Money-6 lakhs on road with ikool kit.Rear seat uncomfprtable for 3, Bad Dashboard (non uniform), cannot tilt steering,bad seat adjustment

      Exterior Looks good but not much difrence between the previous veresions, except the frontLook.

       

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Leg room for the rear seat is good and spacious. Boot space is sufficient for 1 Family. Driving comfort is good even for a long non-stop drving ( I used to travel 350 Km every a weekends), Rear seat is well suitable for 4.  you can't enjoy the  journey with 5.

       

      Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Fuel economy is excellent- 22.5 KMPL highways 19.5 for city Ride, Engine performance is good but Noisy, sporty gear Knob leads us to change the gears with style and smooth.

       

      Ride Quality & Handling Great stability at corners, Better handling and True fun to drive, Difficult to drive at Nights becuase of Poor head lamps.

       

      Final Words " BIG MILAGE CAR FOR MID-CLASS FAMILY" It can be a  luxary car if the car has to be with Quality interiors, plastics Door pads. Driver seat and stearing adjustments 

      Its a good Milage and safty oriented car at day hours.It may be tranformed to all time safty car only if they improved the head lamp lighting.

       

      Areas of improvement Engine Noise to be reduced, head Lamp brighness, Interier door Pads ( need to be replaced with plastic mold), Non foldable Rear seats, Doors are very raugh and makes sound while shut., Wiper delay is long @ 1st step. Very few Number of Service stations ( in Tamilnadu).
