Exterior

The best part of the chevy Sail is the exterior. Personally i feel that it simply outclasses any sedan in its class. Bold, mature styling devoid of any otherwise unnecessary lines or cuts makes it look really smart. Unlike the Swift dzire where the boot seems to have stuked up into the rear, the boot of Sail blends seamlessly at the rear. The Hawk Eyed headlamps complemented with trademark dual  grill and the golden Bowtie Chevy emblem make it look great. At the rear of the car you find swept tail lamps and again no nonsense lines or bends. however i wish chevy gave those turn indicators on ORVMs. To sum up it's design is very well balanced and quite decent, unlike the Honda Amaze which has Lots of scars and rents and even the Swift Dzire.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

when you talk of the interiors of the car except for the raw plastics it has everything else that is mesmerising. The dual Cockpit design, taken from the Corvette give the feeling of what it says. Though I don't like the digital Tachometer which is a bit difficult to read and to get used  to.The positioning of power windows is not conventional and is before the shifter.But you don't have to reach far for them!! You would really appreciate this once you get used to. you don't have to lose control of your right hand and it is very easy to control every other window. If you have seen the Chevy Sail commercial, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdZaSEJCqzA you would realise the adorable kid keeps his skateboard somewhere underneath the rear seat..and it vanishes!! this gives you the idea of what space this car has to offer, other than those glove box and lots of cup holders!! In terms of comfort the chevy is at par with Etios but yes again its interiors are lot better. The positioning of the horn buttons are akin to what you must have seen in old maruti 800's..!! :) but they did not have airbags.!! and the good thing about this positioning is not to make you empty your pockets if there is a problem with horn switch.

However few features are missing like the steering mounted audio controls but once you use the equipped stereo with bluetooth streaming that can connect to 6 phones and you turn on the bass you forget it all. The bluetooth is excellent you can simply relax in the rear of the car with your hand on the armrest and have an excellent conversation on phone...

and yea not to forget that lots of warninngs and beeps to check you!! but yes they are not to put you in trouble. a sweeet chime will remind you if you have left the key in..and others come when you don't use the seatbelt...feels that my chevy is more concerned for me than my Mom!!  

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

The engine feels refined  but lacks low end torque making it a "little" sluggish in the city traffic. However with the smoooth gearbox, gear shifting feels a task so frivolous and mind the powersteering...simply the best and the suspensions too...chevy deserves a pat on the back to have so propely tuned the suspensions for the indian conditions...you can Sail over potholes so easily.

I have driven the car only a 800kms and the millege is just O.k ok type ...The chevy doesn't boast of having an excellent milege unlike the amaze but its not that bad i churn out some 14-15kmpl in city.

 

Ride Quality & Handling 

yes its the ride quality and handling where the sail unanimously outclasses every car of its segment. I have driven the swift, its quite good but the SUPERLATIVE DEGREE BEST is made for SAIL.. the suspensions are amazing. The car also responses very well to steering input and all this when complemented by ABS make it a complete package. You will have your mother your girlfriiend (or your wife!!) all admiring the comfort of the sail and  driving with the hydraulic power steering is so effortless you really enjoy it.

 

 

Final Words

 The CHEVROLET SAIL is a car that deserves a lot however owing to some intial hiccups , those recalls and all ,there would have been a growth in the number of people despising the car.

But i have bought this car after lot of hair splitting and yes i can proudly say I got myself something that's really amazing. There are a lot of people you would find in forums or otherwise who will despise GM for customer satisfaction and all those stuff, but believe me I got my sail from Rahul Chevrolet, Ranchi and am very much content with the response i have got. The only thing i would like to tell someone reading this is don't go to any showroom closing your eyes and not contemplating the options you have...there are a lot of options you have and people will say a lot of things about GM not being good or bad or whatever but if you don't know what GM is you should not talk nonsense. From cadillac which the american prez uses to being the world's second largest car manufactures...from being the makers of the corvette to the awe inpiring camaro..GM has a lot to offer beyond your imagination and granted that they are trying hard to sustain in the intense indian market, remember, NO COMPANY GIVES YOU 3 YEARS WARRANTY, LOW MAINTAINENCE ASSURANCE until it has so much faith in what it makes and what it has.

to sum up : yes CHEVY SAIL COMMANDS RESPECT AND ENVY AT THE SAME TIME...DRIVE IT YOU WILL LOVE IT.. 

Areas of improvement 

 few missing features as i pointed out including the turn indicators on orvms and the steering mounted audio controls... need to be incorporated.

I purchased a Sail Sedan petrol about 6 months ago and that was the beginning of my woes. This is a very poor quality car and the service support of Chevrolet is even more appalling.
Almost from day one I have been facing issues like unusual dashboard noises, clutch noise, gear noise, ac stench etc etc. The clutch is especially problematic and keeps making a horrendous sound, like it's going to break. I have been to the service centers now countless number of times but every time they find temporary fixes and the problems only grow worse. Now I am like a sitting duck, waiting for the day the clutch of my car snaps, which can be life-threatening if you are driving at high speeds.

It’s dismaying that authorized personnel of Chevrolet can’t even isolate the issues with the car, let alone fix it. The sales people turn a deaf ear to your complaints once the sale is done. Even reaching out to Chevrolet customer support has not worked. They continuously keep ignoring your complaints.

All in all please do not , do not buy this car or any other from GM. This is my sincere advice to you. I feel completely cheated and regret the decision to buy this car in spite of warnings from friends about the horrible Chevrolet service support and poor built quality of their cars. I will never, in my life, trust a brand from the General Motors house again.

I had done a test drive of Sail petrol version, liked the car as it was very comfortable in driving the seats were really amzing, give lot of support in turn which makes the drive comfortable. Exterior looks are real nice. I am only disappointed with the interiors as its too bland, nothing interesting to look at. Above all thats not my worry, the worry is inspite of being a good car i have just seen 2 cars on the road in Delhi-NCR region. What is the reason behind it? Are ppl not booking the car or their deliveries are tad. Infact i called in Chevrolet toll free no and they informed that car is getting manufactured in Talegaon in Gujarat. Iam planning to buy sail in next 3 months, I hope then these issues will be resolved OR else I have to end up buying Dzire (which I never want to). Any idea folks, what wrong with deliveries?

Comfortable driving, amazing seats and good mileageInteriors are too bland

Bought a sail LS ABS sedan version from KLN motors, chennai, with just 4 kms of drive on the way home had a rear back side some irritating noise, and with in two days some terrible dashboard noise came through, barly 300 kms of drive and alreday the machine has gone to the service center, the guys were hopeful that they can fix the problem, they also supect some shokabrober problem, wondering how come a world leading auto company has a hopeless production line, crossing all the fatory checking, PDI and given to the customer a faulty vehicle??!!! HOPE GM takes this seriously and rectify the fault.

Hope this guys change the necessary parts and give a peace of mind and driving sense to me, but hate to take the new ones to the repair. What is the point buying the new one? if we cant get a sense of a new car and the charm of owning one.

I have alos found some of the pasrts are looking like a cheap plastic, the shokabrobers are not great as it gives a bumpy feel inside.

Hi everyone,

I got my sail LS ABS petrol Yesterday after wait8ng for 2 long months and I dont know why there is a continuous beep sound coming  while driving even after using seat belt.

Earlier I thought this might be the problem of seat belt but even after wearing seat belt this is giving beep sound which continuosly comes every 5 mins or so.

Is this some manufacturing defect or so I am really confused 

Has any one got the same problem.

Even Chrevolet dealer was not not sure why this sound was coming.

If anyone suffered the same problem help me with this

Please help me with this.

Hope to get this problem fixed as soon as possible as its quite annoying .

Pros: Good exterior and interior in this segment. Price is in limit. Look is stunning. Streamlined body Make the look more better.

Cons: Not yet sure have not driven that much yet. Handling is a little bit problem.

Final Words ALL THE AREAS EXCEPT SPACE SHOULD BE IMPROVED AND WATER LEAKAGE INSIDE THE CAR WITH AC IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE THE CAR. I HAVE TO SHIFT TO 1ST GEAR EVRY NOW AND THEN TO MOVE THE CAR. I REPAIRED THE CAR FOUR TIMES TO STOP THE WATER LEAKAGE AND REMAINS THE SAME. CABIN IS NOT STRONG, THE ROAD SOUND IS ENTERING TO THE CABIN AND IT IS VERY DISTURBING.

THE CHEVY SHOULD TAKE  BACK ALL THE FIRST GENERATION SAIL AND REPLACE WITH NEW CAR TO WITHSTAND IN MARKET.

Areas of improvement PICK UP COMFORT AND SERVICE.

Regarding grievance- This is the extract of my letter sent to  GM Motors

Sir, I had taken delivery of the above mentioned vehicle from Deedi Motors, Trivandrum during the launch of this new vehicle at Trivandrum. Now I am writing this letter regarding to low mileage of this vehicle. Myself and my brother together had booked for Swift D'zire VXi form Indus Motors,Tvm. At that time there was a delay of 3 months in receiving the vehicle. In the meantime I came across your beautiful advertisement of Chevrolet Sail Sedan, launching promising 18 km and many other features . My brother decided to take Swift D'zire while I subsequently cancelled the order and I booked for your product on the very first day of launching in  Trivandrum.

My brother is now satisfied with the performance and  mileage received , 15 km per litre from Swift d'zire, whereas I am getting only 9 km/per litre from your product. I am very sad for the false promise you had made in this launching. I really feel that I had been blind folded in this regard.

I would also take this opportunity to inform you that the pick up received by this vehicle is very poor when compared to Santro and Maruti , which I had previously used for 16 years.
It is high time  that some measure should be taken in this regard. I would thereby request you to conduct an official mileage test by the respective authority in this aspect.

Good styleLS ABS PETROL-VERY POOR MILEAGE &PICKUP

I do not know much about car. It is my sons who decided on SAIL LS ABS Sedan.

I find best offering in budget price which is not at par with other vehicle. I also find it luxurious while driving. Full to full satisfaction.

A pain I felt while dealing with Dealer SINGH MOTORs PUNE. Very unorganized people.Hope My son's decision would be right as we use it month and month and so ON.

Some calculations on total cost went un-noticed while I budgeted it. Dealer has asked for extra warehouse charge. Rs 7000.00 were increased at the time of delivery after waiting for two and half months. A vehicle with bonus to middle class people.

Till this day I regret for buying this car not though it was not my decision. From the day one i booked the car I had troubles getting a test drive and till the first service. The righ side mirror motor was damaged and it took me 3 agonising weeks to get it fixed and it was done at another service center. The people at Chevrolet Service centers have a laid back attitude they behave as though they've done a favor failing to understand that they have jobs and selling cars coz of customers like us. At times I've just felt like taking the car to the showroon and burning it down right in front of them. Its been a shear disappointment buying this car waiting for my loan to get over so tat I can dispose it. I would never recommend a Chevrolet cars to anyone atleast to people I know. GM might be a big brand name in the US but in India its crap.
