one does procrastinate, putting pen to page, but any thing for the Aveo !!. Of all the cars that I had a privilege to see all in a matter of two days and little professional help, when i went to delhi to find a replacement for my beloved Matiz, this was a car that caught my eye. and where, Gurgaon delhhi highway has all the show rooms, Toyota, GM, Ford and Maruti some distance away, each dealer very cordial and pliant. On practicality and economy of purchase i was predecided on Esteem VXi( steel Grey), however on most counts , the Honda city was the car worth its money , a better gear box feel, conservative comfort and little that lacked!and of course the mileage!Ford Fiesta was good too however nthing exciting about its interiors and to me it appeared a littla cramped in the rear. It was a performance car and no doubt peppy in handling like the other fords. But my heart was sold to the better looking , Orange/brick , black and cherry colour machines. Interiors were way ahead of others and lent an upmarket feel.Very pleasing and airy feel ,enough space without too many technicalities.the drive; of curse well cushioned and power available on demand, though not such zippy feel as Ikon, or i am told the fiesta. The notchy gear box was a worry and needed some time getting used to, but todaywith a three month old Aveo i can safely say it was no problem. It was the 26 th booking there and the first onroad Aveo in New delhi as i seemed to have ready cash at the time. that surprised me and i carried some apprehension, aboutfurther sales /reviews of this car. the very next day drove the car down NH* to Mumbai. The most pleasant experience was the soft cushioned ride, good medium range revs which were a treat on the high way, smooth and neat. AC in the peak of summer had us comfortable, though no the - "Chill you to hell" variety.Mileage at steady speeds , fairly accurately measured, were 14.8, 14.9 and 14.7 respectively, AC on speeds,120/130 averaging. I waited almost two months before measuring town mileage which was 10- 10.5.no other problems were noticed. the first servicing was a "Penniless" operation , smooth as hell!!no unnecessary charges at National Garage. And yes the VGIS effect seems to wake up only above certain/speed/revs to provide its promised performance and efficiency. god bless the designers . a word to prospective buyers, nothing more tthan 1.4l is required its powerful and loaded as hell so enjoy the base model!!the most stylish car around for the moneynot the best pick up

Initial Impression - 100 kms driven

      Exterior:
The colour of my car is Cashmere and it looks pretty handsome in this shade. Have seen quite a few Aveos in the colour lately. The build quality is
good and the doors being resaonably heavy close with a resounding thud. Overall the car looks and feel quite solid.

      Interiors:
I must say that the interior of the car is indeed one of the best in the class, if not the best. The quality of the plastics used is very good when compared to the other cars in its segment (Ikon, Logan, SX4) that I considered before buying. The dual tone interiors (black and beige) give the car a classy look. The new speedometer/tachometer cluster looks fantastic at night with a combination of green backlight and glowing red dials.
Space is generous with enough room to stretch your legs in the front as well as at the back. I would say, its similar to the Honda City, maybe an inch less.

Performance (Engine, Gearbox, Brakes, AC, Suspension):

Engine - The engine feels very silet when turned on and unlike the 1.6 logan that i tested sometime back, there is no vibration felt through the gear stick. The engine feels very smooth as the car gains momentum and the smoothness is retained as you move to higher gears. It definitely feels smoother than the Zen and Baleno.
Since the car is new, I have not pushed it beyond 2500 rpm in any gear and have only reached to 80-85 kms/hr on the DND Flyway.
The torque is very good and the car has no problem going at 35-40 kms in the 4th gear. The engine pulls well and is quite eager to respond the accelerator.
But the car does feel a litle sluggish below 1800 rpm in the 2nd gear with the AC on, however, once the needle moves above 2000 rpm, the engine feels eager to move ahead. I have read that this is a VGIS characteristic but I am a tad disappointed with this behaviour. Will report this when I take it for the 1st checkup after 1000 kms.

Gearbox - The new gearbox is much better that the previous one. The shift quality is much improved with the movements being direct. The earlier shifts were vague and notchy. So, I feel GM has done a reasonably good job with the gear box which was much needed.

Brakes- I feel that there is slight vibrations when I try to decelerate from a reletively high speed. I am not sure if its a problem with all aveos or its just the case with my car. Otherwise brakes are quite effective. I guess the 185/60 Bridgestone Turanza also support the brakes pretty well.

Air conditioning - is up to the mark and one can feel the chill very soon. I would say that the effectiveness of the AC can be compared to my baleno which is saying quite a lot.

Suspension - The suspension does a very good job of soaking the uneven roads and potholes of the city. The gas filled shockers are more silent than my friends Fiesta. Overall, they perform up to my expectations.

      Fuel Efficiency:
Haven’t calculated the mileage yet. Got it filled (auto cut) yesterday, so will report about her drinking habits soon.

      Overall:
I am very happy with the car. Will post more updates and I dive it more.

      Arup
Good Build Quality, Cheerful Interiors, Very Smooth Engine with sufficient power, Good Leg RoomA little sluggish below 1800 rpm in the 2nd gear with the AC on

over all the aveo 1.4 is a good value for money. the notchy gears may be the cons but doesnt interfere with the smooth ride. the added ground clearance is a blessing and u feel riding tall in the car as compared to the other cars in the segment.fuel economy over all after 650 kms im getting around 12 in city cum highway. expecting a betterment after the servicestyling, leg room, interiors, best ground clearance, value for moneynotchy gears

Hi.. Im owning a blazing red 1.4 aveo, bought from Deedi Motors,TVM. done 9000+ km in 3 months time, excellent car to drive in (+comfort, +equipments, +interior) and average to drive( -pickup, -gear shift). I have done 160+ km\h and still got great stability but i need to slow suddenly becoz of our road and traffic condition. As Im a spirited driver some knocks happened, i had to change the driver side rear view mirror twice (u can change just the mirror part not the full set) each cost 500 rs. Recently had an accident and need to change the condenser (15,000 rs) the total bill came to 27,0000 (thats a nightmare) including paint, dent and labour charges. Fuel economy is excellent, normally get 13 km with a/c and believe it or not, i got 18+ km on a long highway drive..looks, comfort, value for moneypickup, gear shift

I have 1.4 SX model 2008., 5 doors, 100 bhp. This car is good in styling and equipment, but all others is really poor. Driving performance is bad, gearbox and steereng is hard, and fuel consumption is high. I have several problems with engine, failure lambda sond. I never buy Chevrolet in the future, except Corvette :).
Good style, value for moneypoor driving performance, hard steereng, bad gearbox, high fuel consumption

I bought this car after a lot of research and reviews and bit of feedback from various websites and also from carwale.

The car is a value for money it this segment, with the standard fitments and also the discounts offered.

The car is great when you are single or two sitting, with full load of people and ac on the pick drops substainially. This is not so in the 1.6 which i had test driven.

Till now i have driven it for only 500 km so not much on other issues as os now. But i can say that it is a very comfortable car in any road conditions.

One thing i could miss here was the interior space utilisation which has lot of blank spaces and the door pockets are so small that only 4-5 magazines can go in.

The top of the dashboard in this model is empty but of not use, this space is used for airbag in the higher models. So the company could have used that to create more dash space.

The space utilisation is great in the ford fiesta, with space to keep a lot of nick-nacks.

I wil  try to add to this as i drive my car more.

      ---------------
Now i have driven the car for almost 2000 km, the more i drive it the more i like the car.

Its almost 10 months now, Till now no problems faced.
One thing is that at low rpm's the car is sluggish.

Great Style, ComfortPick up, Interior space utilisation

we bought an aveo after running through most of the competition like fiesta, city, sx4 and verna. I fact it was only after i read the reviews on this site that we really went and checked out the aveo.

liked the car at first sight and after taking the test drive made up our mind.

Basically what makes this car click is the value for money factor.i think i should put together what i like (most of it) and dislike (a little).
      what i Like
      1. Smooth, silent and responsive engine
      2. Interiors... dual tone and nicely laid out
      3. legroom in front and back and the boot space
      4. low cost of spares and good service network
      5. A good brand and image value at a very competitive cost
      6. The chevrolet promise (its a good deal)
      7. Mileage on the highway, even with a/c on....i got around 14.5

      what i dislike
      1. the gear shift ( for a car like this, could have been way better)
      2. Mileage (its bad in the city with the a/c on...sometimes just guzzles fuel like there's no tomorrow

My car has done more that 6500 kms now and its doing good.
I would definetely recommend this car to everyone. forget honda and hyundai, this car gives them a run for the money.

      Hi,

At the outset let me tell you Aveo is a fantastic value for money sedan.I had shorlisted Fiesta, SX-4 and verna. But got hooked to Aveo  because of the good looks, interiors and soundless engine.

I also liked the finishing of the car as compared to fiesta, which i found was not as classy as Aveo. The head lamps and the tail lamps are also very pretty. The blac beige interiors are also the best in the class, may be better than the Honda city and the verna.

Now lets come to the engine, the engine of Aveo is a slient performer. A dark horse i would say. In my recent trip to Wayand( I stay in Bangalore ) which is around 280 kms from Bangalore, i could see the power the engine unleashed. I tarvelled past the Vernas and the Fiestas with ease. The pick up , the road grip and over all control was almost perfect.

So, i would recommend every to buy Aveo who is looking Value For Money. And guys, it s a very underrated car, So Journos and other guys please place the car where it deserves to be , may be among the top sedans in the country within this price range

      Style,looks and mileage.Sluggish gear box.

Exterior I'll try to provide a very unbiased review, bringing out detailed pros and cons. I bought the aveo this October, linen beige color. The exteriors are excellent, and the car looks awesome from outside and inside. The LT version comes with alloy wheels and rear spoiler which makes the car look classy. The boot space is excellent, with lights for night vision. However, the 2 rings which hold the boot open (inside) cut back on the boot space. The rod supporting the hood is located on the left, and is poorly thought of.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) The beige interiors and space are excellent, and it feels like sitting in a space shuttle. The plush leather seats are soft and easy on the body, and one can sink into them. The height adjustable driver seats and steering are very convenient. The leg room is ample, even with the front seats pushed back. However, the driver's leg room can get a little cramped for tall drivers. The chrome outlining speedometers and door handles make it look good. The internally adjustable OVRMs are also excellent

I have been driving a Hyundai Santro. I must say that from a drive comfort point of view, Hyundai has certain simple well thought of features which increases driving ease and comfort, which is absent in the Chevy, such as:-

      a) Foot rest near the clutch, absent in Chevy.

      b) Indicator lever is on the left of the steering instead of the right. As most of us drive with the right hand on the steering, keeping the indicator lever to the left is very irritating.

      c) In the Chevy, one has to look for the 2 small horn buttons on the steering wheel, and locating it to honk is quite irritating. Whereas in the Santro, one just has to press anywhere on the steering wheel body to honk.

      d) The glove compartment is pretty small compared to the car size, and one can hardly keep a few documents.

      e) The dashboard is rounded , and hence once cannot even keep a tissue paper holder on it.

      f) Small open compartments to the left and right bottom of the steering wheel to keep the phone/coins/parking tickets etc., which is absent in the Chevy.

      g) The rear view mirror is quite small compared to the size of the vehicle.

The worst drawback is that the Aveo's beige dashboard reflects very badly on the front windscreen during daytime, which greatly deters visibility. Chevy should put anti reflect glass on its windscreen if it wishes to continue with beige interiors. The music system does not have USB compatibility, which is a basic feature on all modern decks. However, the sound quality and output are excellent.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The engine is noiseless and the gearbox is good although a little on the stiffer side. The reverse gear lever can get quite irritating at times. I understand that Chevy has designed the 'reverse first' as a safety concept, but I think it is not too practical as there is no '6th gear'. The lever up reverse takes time to get used to, and for close range parking, it can be quite dangerous. The fuel economy is good, giving 11 in the city.

Ride Quality & Handling The ride is silky smooth, a driver's pleasure. The handling is also excellent and the car can handle sharp turns comfortably, and the turning radius is low.  The pick up is a little suspect on the 2nd and 3rd gears, but after 60 kph, the drive is velvetty. The car can take 130 - 140 kmp without vibrations or shakes.

Final Words SC Auto, Thane gave a good discount and the Manager Shaji was a delight to interact with. Excellent value for money. If you are looking to buy this car, go for the fully loaded LT version instead of the LS version (and upgrading it). Excellent value for money for the features, looks, driving experience and space. I would recommend it over a fiesta or a linea from a VFM perspective.

Areas of improvement Definitely the windscreen and dashboard, which is presently a deadly combination. The drivers console needs tweaking to suit driving ease, such as foot rest, indicator lever change, compartments (glove and others). I think being American, its designed more for a left hand drive, and they've missed making certain modifications for right hand drive. Adding USB compatibility would be a simple addition to the music system, which can also be a selling point.

Excellent Value for Money, Luxurious Space, excellent features, super smooth driveReflection of dashboard on windscreen, reverse gear, driver conveniences
