It all started when I made up mind to buy a used car in the beginning of 2019. Before this I used to drive my mom's Nano AMT. One of my close friends father is a top shot in VW. He casually mentioned his friends car which was hardly driven and was next to showroom condition. Upon hearing it, I pounced on the opportunity and went to look at the car. When I saw the car,I was awestruck. It was literally love at first sight. To my surprise in the last 8-9 years, the car had only run 22k kms. It was good as new. Plus it was an automatic. Which I had a soft spot for since I used to drive a Nano AMT before that. It took it for a test drive and I fell in love with her all over again. The car just flew as soon as I set foot on the peddle. Coming from a Nano it seemed like I was in a different world. I made up my mind and paid advance for it right then and there. After a few days I picked up the car. I was the happiest person on the world. Now about the real world test. 1) The transmission, even though a regular AMT feels amazingly smooth. The punch you get when you put it in sports mode is just fantastic. 2) The millage I was receiving in the city in traffic wasn't very impressive about also not very bad considering the car is a petrol automatic. About 8-10 km/l. But the millage on the highway is such that it can even put some diesel cars to shame. I kid you not, I got an average of 18km/l while travelling from Lucknow to Delhi through yamuna expressway, which is a 600km journey. Upon reaching Delhi I had about 300kms of petrol left. Thanks to the massive 55l tank. 3) There are a lot of security features in the car which even today's cars don't have. Such as motions sensors on the inside so if there is any movement in the car while its locked from the outside. It starts honking. Even if one of the window is left open and someone tries to put their hand inside. It does the same thing which I found to be really cool. 4) The infotainment system isn't very useful in today's world. It misses out on basic necessities such as Bluetooth, USB or even AUX cable. It only has a radio and a cd player. Therefore I changed the system with a Sony XAV-3000 which has Android Auto and Apple Car Play. I am more than happy with my decision to do so. 5) I would say that the car is really stable and pulls up greatly upto to 120kmph but struggles a bit after that. 6) Lastly, how can I forget the impressive built quality. Considering the 5 star euro ncap rating and renowned VW reliability. This car is the best that you can get in this segment. And was certainly a steel for me under 3.5L.

      Exterior

The only word comes in mind.... WOW. Timeless design especially front stance and crease lines simply reflects its class. Simply and decent Styling clubs together makes it the most desirable car. Solid built can be felt from its metal sheet which is way ahead in turms of strength and thickness which feels like a tank unlike typical marutis and hyundai crap i.e. no other car can match in terms of solid built quality. One can compare it with ny car in segment.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Decent and sober thus well built interiors sooths every owner as each and every material used wheather its dash plastic or door panels to upholstery....is top notch. Features wise it may not offer that much bells and whistles like hyundai verna but still one can find it practical and optimum in terms of utility and use. Seats are well cushioned and offers decent comfort.front space is fine and rear legroom is more den decent but one thing that spoils the party is big, bulgy transmission tunnel at rear which greatly hampers space for 3rd middle rear passenger as i think VW should look onto it as flat floor like in etios etc offers good legroom for middle passenger. Rear armrest offers nimble seating comfort. Head restraints are well placed and beige light interior's color scheme peels out the cabin's ambience as roomy and luxurious.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

This engine is......... Best i can say. This 1.6 TDi is a beast from volkswagen's stable. 250 NM torque which comes early at just 1500 RPM really kicks the car like nything and once turbo spools up, its literally takes off. One can look out the entire segment range and can find that this is the most dynamic and flexible engine in the entire fleet. From idle rpm it revs like a petrol engine and once turbo comes in the party, the Diesel motor kicks in a absolute madness. No turbo lag at all which means least work with gear lever. At idle there is prominent diesel clatter from outside audible along with noisy radiator fan makes it somewhat loud but from inside everything is well insulated. This is not a refinement issue infact all Tdi's globally are not as silent as hyundai crdi or Fiat's MJD. Fuel economy is driver sensitive but in realtime cumulative, it gives nothing less den 20Kmpl as with spongy acceleration on long trips, one can extract 24+ kmpl. Gearbox is precise and short throw gear lever is a delite to use.

      Ride Quality & Handling

The biggest strength of this can is unmatched typical german ride quality which no other car in ny price bracket can offer. This is the best one i have driven so far. One can drive it to experience it. Way ahead of boat like matutis and hyundai driving dynamics. The brakes equally complements it as even at red line triple digit speeds, it remain grounded and handles like a arrow released from arch. Driving is so much fun in it as my car is 5 years old nd still my eagerness and joy is childlike everytime i put it on roads. Cornering with this car is absolute fun and one can feel the tank like safety built of car whenvr it is put on wheels.

      Final Words

Great car, great performance, great mileage.. Literally i can say that its nothing less then a pride to own a Volkswagen. One should have it to experience the joy of owning a VW. Its no nonsense motoring. And will stay for years to come.

      Areas of improvement

There are some infact major issues which i think are common and VW should address it both responsibly and ethically.

      1. High cost of spares infact labour charged by volkswagen service station for evry work is exhorbitant infact completely irrational and out of the world. Its a ground reality and one can examine service and work bills from service labour. For example to replace a new windshield, total expense stands at INR 7280 APPROX but the cost of genuine front windshield in only 3750 which means rest of the amount is flooded with sealant and labour plus taxes. Same is the case with other repairs. This is the only reason and a fact which has and is hampering overall sales figures of German brand because customer's sentiments are well struck which shows on sales figures. I think maruti is king is this dept. Costly maintenance is acceptable and cn be hapily spent but spares cost is priced beyond ny logic. Stock appollo acceleres are crap and they simply worn out at 40000 kms along with they are prone to punctures and other road hazards like cuts and side wall bulges. I think vw should switch over to Reliable brand like Michelin as only good tyres can complement such a wonderfull car.

At last i want to put light on the biggest concern... That is... These TDI's fuel injection system is very sensitive to quality of Diesel as even a single fill of bad diesel can  in no time choke costly fuel injectors( i have xperirienced it). Due to diesel quality issues in india so i recommend eaxh and every vw diesel owner to stick to reliable Fuel pumps on which they can rely on quality and unadultrated fuel.

At last i want to thank reader to suple their time to read my unbiased review which comes frm my heart and is based on facts and my 5 years Vw tdi highline ownership experience ( 79000 odo)

Unbridled power, Precise handling, drivability, Quality and Timeless DesignCostly Spares, Stock Apollo Tyres, Low Ground Clearance, Weak Handlamps, Demands utmost care...

      1. Buying experience: Well, it was the love of power at first drive! Owning a SWIFT vxi, I thought of simply doing a test drive on this pre-used car. The moment I pressed the accelerator on a straight road, my heart pounced with joy. I had never felt this power before on the driving seat. The car has amazing road sense and is a pleasure to drive. The previous owner had taken great care of the car and was as good as new and had clocked about 56k on the ODO. 2. Riding experience: Definitely, one of the best cars to drive. First thing, you will notice about this car even before you hit the ignition is the build quality. It is built like a tank and the door weight speaks volumes about this. And once you press the pedal, you can feel the connect with this car. Its maneuverability and the response from the steering. the gear indicators are a nice thing but you will not need to even see it cause the car literally speaks to you. It is a powerful machine and overtaking is a breeze in this car. Especially, in ghats when you are on your way up the ghats. 3. Details about looks, performance etc. Well, from a looks perspective, it is simple and suave! It definitely calls for attention amongst the same segment cars. At nights, the headlamps give a very mean piercing look. Performance is like a Muay Thai fighter. Can knock out some of the bigger competitors with the punch. Highways, it can take curves with ease at higher speeds and at no moment you feel lack of control. Even from a mileage perspective, you get a good 18 kms/liter on highways and around 13 to 14 in city driving with AC on at all times. 4. Servicing and maintenance. Everyone says owning a VW is expensive. However, if I compare this with my swift, this has been more cost effective and at the same time gives me a luxurious and powerful ride each time. Maintenance has never been a problem for me so far and is fairly priced even though it is an annual one. 5. Pros and Cons Pros - Power, Performance, Looks, Space (boot and seating), a complete driver's car, response, build quality, and so on. Cons - Very heavy, so sometimes on Indian roads specially on highways if you don't see a pothole, you may end up hurting your tire if you hit the hole at high speed. A bit noisy cabinet at high speeds. At regular speeds, it is not much of a problem.

This is the best car I've ever owned. I also own a Nissan Terrano but even on a long drive, I choose Vento! Nothing can beat the brisk performance it possesses, the extreme acceleration even post 100 km/h. As of comfort, it can comfortably seat upto 4 people even on a long journey. The seats are very comfortable, the A/C works very fine even after so many years, music system is awesome, beautiful horn and much more! As of the manual gearbox, it's as slick as it gets. Take it to 4000 rpm and it'll provide you the beautiful soothing sound of the 1.6 TDI engine. Suspension works brilliant and provides a very comfortable ride even on bad roads of Gorakhpur, better than the Terrano. The rough and tough built quality is something that leaves me speachless. At this price, no other car (except Skoda Rapid) will give you such an immaculate quality! As of the flawless exterior, the white colour is as beautiful as the snow on Himalyas. Even when she scraped her rear fender with a dark green Toyota Qualis, she didn't lose her white colour but gave an impression on the dark green Qualis. Talking about the cons, I can only think of the exuberant service costs.
