My 2016 Toyota Innova Crysta 2.4Z manual has been with me for a little over nine years now, and after clocking around 1.47 lakh kilometers, it continues to be a vehicle that has earned both my admiration and trust. The Beginning: Choosing the Crysta When I purchased the Crysta back in 2016, the decision was guided by two main factors: reliability and comfort. I had owned other cars before, but I wanted something that could serve as both a family cruiser and a dependable highway companion. The Innova nameplate already had a strong reputation in India for durability and low maintenance, and the then-new Crysta promised more power, better comfort, and a touch of premium appeal. I opted for the top-end 2.4Z variant with a manual transmission — the perfect blend of control, equipment, and practicality. Performance and Drive Experience Even after nine years, the 2.4-litre diesel engine continues to impress me. Its linear torque delivery and the strong mid-range make it ideal for highway driving, and the six-speed manual gearbox feels smooth and well-matched to the engine’s nature. Whether it’s long-distance travel across states or frequent city commutes, the Crysta has handled everything with quiet competence. Fuel efficiency has been quite respectable for a car of its size — I’ve averaged around 13–14 km/l on highways and about 10–11 km/l in mixed driving. Worst Build QualityExtremely disappointed with my Toyota Innova Crysta’s build quality. A small accident where a dog hit the front at just 50–60 km/h caused serious damage.
