      Exterior

Not world class but same time not bad either. Its reasonably good looking car. Looks great in almost all the available colors. I can place this next to i20, Polo. (Ofcourse, it is my personal choice). Surprisingly,  14" wheels are provided for G variant in place of 15" wheels in its high end models, and there are no front or back side grills provided for  G variant which has discredited the exterior looks to a great extent. But at an additional cost, you can get them fixed with originals by the dealer.

Doesn't look very strong or solid like POLO or Fabia which are considered to be best in the segment in that category.

The ground clearance is best for Indian roads.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

This is where the vehicle scores very low. But again the quality of the interiors is not very very bad either. They are just okay but definitely not best in class. I can place it just above Figo and below all other.

The first thing I should talk about here is, "space". Its best in class. 3 people of heavy build can comfortably sit on the rear seat. Very good leg room. This is where most of other cars in this segment are scoring very low. I can place this on top of Fabia, Figo and i20 in this segment.

Boot is just sufficient. Cannot be compared with Fabia, Figo.

AC is powerful and quick enough to cool the car in no time. Music system that is available in V & VX is really good and you would get the same 2DIN  for below 10K for the G variant also. There are no door speakers provided on the backside. All the 4 speakers are placed in the front part. I have seen the same in A-Star, but not sure how it would be useful.

The glove box is vey spacious and intelligently designed for inside cooling.

Coming to the worst, the odometer is too ordinary and no tacho associated .. and more over it is  centrally mounted. In the first look, you may not like it. The explaination I got was, it will enable a clear visibility of the road particulary at the corners and to some extent it may be true. But the quality of the odo is aweful.

G & above variants offer all four power windows which is good when compared to POLO. Keyless entry is available even in G variant which agains scores a few points against its competetors.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

The 4-cylinder engine is very responsive and, as always, exhibits the true class of TOYOTA.

The mileage it offers is really best in class so far,  and its going to be the USP for this vehicle. Low kerb weight resulted in a good mileage and lessens burden on the engine. Though not sure, I heard Swift is also planning to shred a few kilos for its next release.

The gear box is again very crispy and responsive.

      Ride Quality & Handling

Its made for city driving and it will definitely do that job very well. Very light steering offers best in class driving experience and offers excellent maneuverability in city driving conditions. Moreover 4.9 mtr turning radius gives ability to drive comfortably in city road conditions.  4-cylinder engine is very responsive and idle for "mostly city and occassional high way drives". I can say the ride quality is very superior though a little under performant in the class, but that is understandable. Suspensions are cleverly used in the car.

For high way driving conditions, I wouldn't rate this on par with any big performers but enough for a quality ride that clocks not more than 120kmph. Though I haven't tested, this is very stable till 140Kmph but not above that.

I can place this on par with i20, Micra and Swift. (again according to my personal preferences)

      Final Words

As a auto magazine quoted, this is a very good car which will tick most of the buyer's requirements. If you are looking for a family car with Brand Image, good and effortless city driving, regular city - and - occassional highway rides, spacious with reasonably good looks then this car is for you. But if the performance is your first requirement, forget this car.

Finally coming to my title, yes this car has all potential to kill Swift but too early to say "it will"... And more over, Swift's bestseller is its diesel variant but incase of Liva, the diesel is not available yet in the market so we have to wait and see. And one more thing I have to mention here is, my review is an outcome of my comparison with other cars like POLO, Swift, Fabia, i20, Punto, Figo and Micra. I haven't considered i10, Ritz, WagonR, Beat because I personally feel that they belong to Tall boy segment and there are certain compromises with the tall boys.

      Areas of improvement

      - Interiors, Interiors, Interiors...

      - Responsive Engine, Mileage, Interior Space- Not so good interiors, some important cosmetics are missing in the low variants

      Exterior

      Pros:

      • Head-turning looks
      • Perfect Paint and Finish
      • Excellent stance, thanks to the 15" Tubeless Alloy Wheels

      Cons:

      • None

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

      Pros:

      • Dual Airbags
      • Dual Aircon Vents
      • Audio on Steering Wheels
      • Good Passenger Space - both front and rear
      • Good enough for 3 people in the rear seat
      • Keyless Entry, Mats, DVD Player, etc., are included in the price

      Cons:

      • Centrally-placed Instrument Cluster - will require some getting used to...
      • Power Windows Buttons have no markings - why???
      • Better Plastics could have been employed - at least in the top variants...!

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

      Pros:

      • Top-of-the-line Engine - GREAT Economy!
      • Smooth-as-butter Gear shifting - so important for city drives
      • Short-throw Gearbox - yet another positive for city driving
      • Higher Torque at lower speeds - no need to change Gears frequently in the city

      Cons:

      • Pick-up definitely isn't something that'll WoW you...

      Ride Quality & Handling

      Pros:

      • Extremely good Power Steering
      • Reasonable Turning Radius (4.8 M)
      • Very good to have ABS and EBD!

      Cons:

      • Ride Quality on the bumpy side, on untarred roads

      Final Words

I do not like Maruti for their poor build quality. Especially the Swift, and refuse to look at the to-be-launched-soon New Swift too. I loved the Getz, but its gone out of production - the 1.2L i20 is underpowered, while the 1.4 is overpriced. The others - Fabia, Beat, Figo, Jazz, Polo, (WHY on earth does the Polo have only 3 Cylinders in the 1.2L variant???), Ritz (UGGGHHH! Frog on Wheels!) etc, are definitely beaten in their tracks by the Liva!

With the Liva, you get the Big 'T' brand and quality, at the lowest-ever price.

      Areas of improvement

      1. Introduce a 1.2 or 1.4L variant
      2. Better plastics in the higher-end variants at least
      3. Simple Markings for the Power Window Buttons - does that cost a bomb???
      4. Suspension to be tuned for our Potholes, as opposed to our Roads
Excellent Economy - to meet TMRRW's high fuel prices, Attractive Design - to meet TMRRW's fashionPickup is spartan, Space ought to be more at a price of nearly Rs. 7 Lakhs

Final Words View exterior Toyota Etios Liva photos and pictures to see the car from all angles. Take your time to review every element of the Toyota Etios Liva including the headlights, side view mirrors, curb side appeal, wheels, car doors, and more. The exterior of a car is what will turn heads when driving a Toyota Etios Liva, but the interior is what will make you fall in love with the car. You will probably be spending a lot of time in the car so you'll want to make sure you are comfortable with the way it looks and feels. With these Toyota Etios Liva pictures you can know more on the headroom and legroom in the front and back, good gentle car.

Went to Nandi Toyota (Hosur Rd). After looking all around the car and checking it back to back with Etios .Here are my observations.

Apart from engine and boot. In Liva the cushioning comfort is not the same as in Etios Sedan. Though the recline angle of the seat is same but Liva has got a thin and slightly short height seat. The headrest is positioned lower because of the roof which tapers down exactly at that point.

Ignition on.. Engine noise is very well in acceptable range for a petrol car. The previous week took a test drive of Etios and observed a slight amount of vibration in doors with sporty engine noise intruding in cabin. In Liva didn’t experience the same.

Ride dynamics is superb for car weighted below a ton, even at 140KM SPEED. Gear shifting was a breeze with fun in maneuvering the steering. Clutch engagement was also light and precise. 4-5 times tested the initial pickup from standstill to good speed (which in my opinion is the need of many). ..It delighted me considering the engine capacity.

Liva scores high in this aspect when compared to all 1200 cc hatchback except Swift. But for me the Maruti gem does not fulfill one of my major requirement ;for everyone to hold a comfortable seating position in rear seat (Everyone in family almost 6 feet). I would settle down for this small Toyota despite bland interiors but as it fulfills my criteria for

      -      Mileage (Not aware but since Etios feedback in Bangalore city is for 11-12 ..Assuming  Liva’s mileage   would definetly be 1.5 kms more )

      -      Seating for 5 tall build persons

      -      Perfect combination of Engine ,Transmission and bit of fun factor while driving.

      -      Lot of accessories from company available to make it near to higher variant offerings. (of course not a defogger and wiper)

The kind of packaging done for all  variants.G(sp) appears practical . For this variant we can get the additional crome rings on AC vents with crome logo on steering wheel as spare part. Otherwise the interior appears very uninspiring to look everyday. Also for extra comfort some more padding is required in rear seat with wide headrest through aftermarket solution.

Exterior Looks great from outside. Has the looks of a mid-range premium sedan. Strong Body and the Toyota Logo speaks a lot. Does make heads turn

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) A lot of them said the interiors are bad. I disagree. I don't think as a rational customer I am qualified to judge the quality/density of plastics etc. I liked the stuff inside.

Space is the big plus. With a width of 1695 mm it's slightly lesser to i20 which is at 1705. But I was more comfortably seated in Liva than in i20. The Leg Room is brilliant. The sterio is nice and the dashboard is good looking.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox It's been about a week. Too early for me to comment on these attributes.

Ride Quality & Handling Brilliant. I am an Innova user too. I haven't found any difference in the quality of drive. Easy to handle. Absolutely smooth.

Final Words It's a premium hatchback under 6 lacs. Has more features/space than Maruti Swift VXI and i20 Magna. Perfect family hatchback. I own a Petrol Version (G) and I am happy.

      Areas of improvement Milage.

I am driving this car for almost a month now. It’s Chick City Car with excellent exteriors, Bright sporty colors and aerodynamic body shape. I must tell you it is almost a head turner. Personally I think Liva looks the best in Black, Blue and Reds. While its no rocket on the road, the engine is pretty responsive and it gives you a decent driving experience. Over 100 KMPH mark, the car is pretty stable and smooth. I have tried Ritz and the i20, where the engine starts shouting for life. Maybe the lesser body weight is the reason behind it. The Steering is top class and it responds to the slightest movements and that’s why I say it’s superb in city driving conditions where you can easily steer in and steer out of traffic.. The Gears are placed at a very comfortable position and also the Gear displacements are small and smooth which makes Liva a very easy to drive car.

I stay in Dwarka region of New Delhi which has better roads and lesser traffic than rest of Delhi and I am getting an average 13-14 KMPL on road. And it is likely to improve with the first and the second servicing. So I think Toyota did bloat its figures somewhat but not that much.

And as far as the Bads are concerned I would say Interiors, Interiors and Interiors. The Plastics are cheap and the gray color adds to the dullness. Same Quality with Beige would have enhanced the beauty. I was so pissed with it that I went for wooden finishing; So with a Sony 35K colors Stereo display in between it looks spectacular. The Speedometer is efficient but looks kiddish. The Other controls are pretty basic too.

To summarize, if you want a decent looking cars with not that great interiors but loaded with the mighty Toyota Engine and a oodles and oodles of space, LIVA is the car for you. It’s a Beauty!!

Stylish Exteriors, Interior Space, Excellent Steering Control, Responsive Engine, Cooled Glove BoxPoor Quality of Interior Plastic, Gloomy Grey Color, No RPM meter in lower variants

      Exterior Good.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very spacious, comfortable seeting, normal and very simple features.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Very poor fuel economy (only used shell unleaded pertrol till date), engine feels ok, and good gear box.

Ride Quality & Handling Very nice.

Final Words Its very hard for me to believe that Liva gives mileage of 11kmpl (in city) only  (using the car for more than a month now), even though company like TOYOTA claims 18.31kmpl in test conditions. During my purchase from Ravindu Toyota- Balendur (Marthahalli), I was ensured that Liva will give milage of 15 Kmpl min in city (SO UNTRUE)). How pathetic driver you may be, but there can not be so much difference and 11kmpl milage from a new age 1.2L engine is not acceptable. My 6 year old Maruti Baleno 1.6L gives me nearly 12Kmpl in city with AC (always on) and my 1999 make Maruti Esteem 1.3L gave me around 10-11 kmpl (AC always on) as well.

Areas of improvement Just improve on mileage of Petrol engines OR dont make high claims.

Good looks and handling, smooth drive, very light steering, clean gears shiftVERY POOR MILEAGE, Thud sound from suspension while crossing little swiftly small humps and holes

Exterior Exterior Styling is a matter of personal choices and preferences. To me, external styling wasn't one of the parameters in choosing this car. However, Autophiles have generally found the styling of Liva to be better than its elder sibling (Etios Sedan). Paint quality is quite good and the blue colour looks particularly attractive.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) As is noted by almost everyone by now, the interiors of Liva is nothing to be talked about, as far as equipment levels go. It doesn't even have a Power Steering on the lowest trim. No Climate Control, Multi-Functional Display, Height Adjustable Driver Seat on even the Top Variant and one may think Toyota has lost the game.

Having a big family consisting of 4 adults and 2 children, my topmost criterion however was space inside and this is where Liva scored maximum.  3 Medium Sized Adults can sit comfortably on the rear seat without compromising on shoulder room. The transmission tunnel is minimized to have almost flat floor in the rear and this adds to the comfort. Under-thigh support is very good. Engress and Igress is not all that bad either.

Visibility offered from Driver's seat is excellent. Driver's seat is not height-adjustable but the default setting should be just perfect for medium-height (5'6" to 5'9") and tall (5'10"+) persons. The steering wheel can be adjusted for height and may be boon on long drives.

The ergonomics is well-thought of as everything (Music System, Gear Shift Lever, AC Vents, Power Outlet, Beam Level Adjustors and such controls) falls within easy reach from driver. The seats offer good under-thigh and lateral support.

There is oodles of space to keep your things around. The boot could have been a little bigger but as such is moderate.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The Engine performance seems compromised on the lower end of the graph. I found the second gear to be especially under-powered in bumper-to-bumper traffic. However, 3rd Gear is absolutely sweet. 20km/h+ can be easily managed with full passenger load in this gear. 4th and 5th don't disappoint much unless you are an enthusiast driver.

The short-travel clutch is simply fantastic and I found the Gear Shift to be absolutely precise. (I didn't notice any strange sounds as claimed by some other owners of Liva).

Ride Quality & Handling The ride quality offered is excellent. With the city roads lashed by recent heavy downpour, potholes of different sizes were omnipresent. However, most of these were taken by Liva effortlessly. Handling of the car is not bad either. But then, i haven't really tested her on curvey roads at 50km/h+ speeds.

Final Words Liva is nothing to be talked about. The interiors are poor on equipment levels and don't instill feel good factor thoguh they are quite functional. But Toyota seems to have captured the essence of requirements of a middle-class family well. If you prefer leisurely drive with all family members without denting your pocket much, this is the car for you.

      Areas of improvement

      1. Better Equipment levels (No Parcel Tray, Electrically adjustable OVRM, Rear Cabin Light, Rear Wiper, Only one reverse light for 5.7L on road price?!)

      2. A Price-tag of 50K less would make this VFM hatchback.

Space Inside, Fuel Economy, Attention to Details, Toyota BrandCost Cutting glaringly evident, Low End Torque is not enough

I was looking for a car that could give me, space, equipment& mileage. Perhaps I would have still picked up this beauty of a car even if it had just been the mileage factor. It is just that I am not a big fan of the rising petrol prices. That apart, it is a very spacious & practical city car. It is a great alternate to some of the other cars in the segment. The only down side as I see it, is the steep price tag for the top end version. But then this is a Toyota & you get everything that is associated with that name like; quality, refinement & smoothness. To top all this, you have a three year free maintenance! This car is ideal for people that spend the majority of the time in the city & travel occassionally or over the weekend. Travelling long distances in excess of 500 Kms can be quite a task in this car for those seated in the rear seats.

      Exterior

Not the best looking car, but definetly not the worst. The design is acceptable, GD version does'nt have fog lamps so looks odd without them. Otherwise its a design which no ppl will hate.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Interior space is good, the car itself is wide and has good legroom for rear passengers.Three adults can be seated comfortably even for distance journeys. Front Visibility is good so are the erognomics in the car. The seats are comfortable even during long journey's( ve driven 450kms non stop).

Otherwise the Dash is bland and the grey color adds up to the woe's. The AC Rotators n centre console look dated,Elecrtic Mirros's badly missed so are Defogger's n Rear Wiper.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Engine is a class below competitors as far as sprightly performance is concerned, but should say it is decent n not far behind. Has literally no turbo lag and a breeze to use in the city.  The 3'rd gear is tall n good for city drives and u can always climb gears soon. But on Highway once u cross 120 KMPH it feels strained, but u can cruise all day between 100-120 KMPH.

Fuel Efficiency is excellent, driving around 100kmph i get 21-22 kmpl in the highways ( checked with tank to tank on three 1000 kms drives) and around 17-18 kmpl within city, considering the traffic in chennai, it's definetly good.

Gearbox is decent, it's percise and you use it lil in the city due to the tall gearing. Engaging reverse is fun and the gearbox feel's long lasting.

       Ride Quality & Handling

Ride is decent, it is tuned for both Cith and Highways, The car is well planted on Highways and confidence inspiring. Even in the city it filters all bumps and pothholes effectively.

One problem with my car is that it occassionally crashes with a loud thud when driving on a small bump or over small poth holes in rolling speed( i.e: below 20 kmph).  but there is no damage in the underbody.

      Final Words

Nice car for family use, it's easy to drive, spacious and comfortable. u can put your money in this car if u can ignore the interiors, otherwise it's a good effort from Toyota. They have given a good car and few updates will make it even more better n VFM.

      Areas of improvement

Quality of plastics and Dashboard needs immediate attention, This alone put's off many potential buyers. Noise Insulation to reduce Road Noise n Engine noise.

Adding Powered mirrors n Rear wipers with defoggers, autodown power windows, fog lamps, boot lamp will give value for buyers. these are common features badly missed in a car this price.
