        Specifications

        • Engine & Transmission

          • Engine
            1896 cc, 4 Cylinders Inline, 2 Valves/Cylinder

Timely services will keep a motor efficient and in top shape.

          • Engine Type
In Line Diesel Engine, Inter Cooler Turbo, Water Cooler OHC, Traverse Mounted, Direct Injections

The official title given by the manufacturer in terms of the name of the engine, the displacement and the number of cylinders.

A bigger displacement and more than four-cylinders generally indicate a performance-oriented engine.

          • Fuel Type
            Diesel

All cars in India either run on petrol, diesel, CNG, LPG or electric power.

          • Max Power (bhp@rpm)
            90@4000

Gives a good idea of the performance of the vehicle under full thrust. A higher figure here usually means a higher top speed as well.

Higher the power, the peppier the engine but it can also affect fuel economy.

          • Max Torque (Nm@rpm)
            210@1900

Relates to in-gear acceleration. A higher figure here means better roll-on acceleration, fewer gear shifts, and possibly better fuel efficiency.

The more torque at low RPM range makes the engine feel more responsive. It also allows the engine to run smoothly without too many gear changes.

          • Mileage (ARAI)
            13.94 kmpl

This is the maximum fuel efficiency that an engine gives. All numbers are provided by the manufacturer based on tests conducted and specified by the standards of the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India)

Such fuel efficiency attained while driving in special conditions makes it unlikely to get it in real-world conditions

          • Drivetrain
            FWD

Cars come with different drivetrain configurations depending on the segment.

Front-wheel drive (FWD) is most common in mainstream cars while expensive cars or SUVs come with rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

          • Transmission
            Manual - 5 Gears

Type of transmission used to transfer power from the engine to the wheels

A manually operated transmission is the most popular type, thanks to its simplicity and low cost. Varied types of automatic transmissions are also available.

        • Dimensions & Weight

          • Length
            4507 mm

The length of the car decides its segment. In India, cars that are less than 4 metres in length enjoy reduced excise duties.

            Length
            • Length: 4507

Longer length results in more cabin space. It also adds to straight line stability.

          • Width
            1731 mm

A car's width is defined as its widest point without its mirrors.

            Width
            • Width: 1731

Although more width gives you more lateral space inside the cabin, it makes the car more difficult to park in narrow spots.

          • Height
            1455 mm

The height of the car denotes the highest point of the vehicle from the ground.

            Height
            • Height: 1455

Taller the car, the more headroom there is on offer inside the cabin. However, a tall boy stance also affect the car’s centre of gravity which can cause more body roll.

          • Wheelbase
            2512 mm

The space between the center of the front and rear wheels.

            Wheelbase
            • Wheelbase: 2512

The longer the wheelbase, the more space there is inside the cabin.

        • Capacity

          • Doors
            5 Doors

The number of doors define the category of car. For example – four door means sedan, two-door means coupe while five-doors usually refer to a hatchback, MPV or an SUV.

          • Seating Capacity
            5 Person

The number of people that can be seated comfortably in the car, which has also been mandated by the car manufacturer.

            Seating Capacity
            • Seating Capacity: 5
          • Fuel Tank Capacity
            55 litres

The official volume of the fuel tank of a car, usually denoted in litres.

If a car has a large fuel tank, it can cover long distances without refuelling.

        • Suspensions, Brakes, Steering & Tyres

          • Front Suspension
McPherson Sturt with wishbone arms and torsion stabilizer

Almost all cars in India use an independent front suspension which is usually the MacPherson Strut type.

          • Rear Suspension
Compound link crank axle with torsion stabilizer

The rear suspension can either be non-independent or independent.

Most of the budget cars have non-independent suspension while the more expensive ones get independent rear suspension which offers better bump absorption.

          • Front Brake Type
            Disc

Most of the vehicles sold in India get ventilated or non-ventilated disc brakes upfront.

            - The ventilated discs are more popular thanks to them providing better stopping power and it also works well in hot conditions.

          • Rear Brake Type
            Drum

In affordable cars, drums brakes are fitted at the rear as they are cost effective.

Disc setup at the rear is now getting more popular as cars are getting faster in the real world.

          • Minimum Turning Radius
            5.4 metres

The official kerb-to-kerb minimum radius a car takes to complete a 180-degree turn.

Shorter the turning radius, the lesser space you need to make a tight turn or to take a U-turn.

Exterior Class look and muscular. Paint quality is so good that a simple water wash gives good shine and desent look. Great alloy wheels, very strong doors. Genuine leather used, i have purchased 2006 model where the interiors was very dirty, i had given it to 3M car care for interior wash, after that the interiors had given elegance look, what i am trying to say is; the quality of the interior materials are very high quality. Though it doesn't have initial pickup but once the engine reaches 3000 rpm then the pick up turn like phantom, Great fuel economy. I have Royal enfield 500CC which gives 25 KMPL with petrol, Now SKODA is giving me 18KMPL with Diesel, If i compare both, SKODA gives more milage than my bullet 500. Areas of improvement Spare parts prices must drop drastically. Must have more service points. We have to wait for long time. Really what i have expected and what i have experianced is good.Great fuel economy, Aerodynamic shape, Robust design. MuscularVery less service points, expensive spare parts, Power steering is not smooth,

        • gr8 for a few years, problems from 4th year onwards
i have been self driving my Skoda since feb 2003, over 4 years. i have loved this car, the driving quality, pick up, handling etc is impeccable, and gives a very solid sturdy feel. i find the sound system is very good, though some people do complain that it lacks in deep base quality. the boot space is excellant, 2 entire bicycles fit in easily once i fold the rear seat, as when i go to my farmhouse. optionally i have once travelled with a couple sleeping in the boot, once the seats were folded down making a space 6 feet deep! the front seats ofcourse are very comfy, and adjust to a gr8 degree. the bumper is excellant, i have had small scuffles with autos and even after i have been hit fairly hard the damage to the bumper has been minimal. The AC gave me problems in the first year itself, and 2 visits to Skoda didnt help any, apparantly much later i found out that the default mode was exhaust , so outside air would come in all the time, which may be ok if u are driving in the hills, but useless for our harsh summers. a local car mechanic "rectified" the problem by permanantly shutting off the exhaust feature which solved the problem , and after which the AC is fantastic.( i dont know if everyone has had this problem with the climacteric AC, or is it only me).Furthur every service (free) would cost over RS 5000, as the diesel would be changed along with the air pump/fuel pump. aslo evry monsoon would require new wipers. also in heavy rains there is some leakage of water into the cabin, and again skoda were charging exorbitantly to repair this, my local mechanic solved it with some regular sealant, and the last monsoon was no problem. after 4 years my electronics are giving a little problem, the cabin lights are flickering off and on, and i think the fuel pump is also giving problems. the tyres, tubeless, radials, have barely lasted 25000 km, basically city driving and have needed to be replaced.having driven for 4 years + i am overall very satisfied with my skoda, but i just had to point out the drawbacks which i have faced, are my problems alone or unique?, i dont know, that u can decide for yrself. my next car based on my experience will NOT be the Laura, i will probably go in for a Honda, accord maybe?gr8 fuel economy, gr8 boot space, very solid feel, and gr8 handling, very good alpine music systemrear seat not spacious, free services expensive, AC has default exhaust mode,
