Nissan Evalia [2014-2016] Review
The Evalia is Nissan’s take on India’s burgeoning MPV segment. It is a globally acclaimed product which currently competes with the likes of the Toyota Innova, Mahindra Xylo and the Chevrolet Enjoy. Since its time in the Indian market, the Evalia has already received a couple of upgrades in the form of minor design changes and a more upmarket cabin.
Compared to the Maruti Suzuki Eritga and the new Honda Mobilio, the Evalia looks more like a typical van with its sliding doors and boxy design. However, there's no denying the fact that the Evalia offers a lot of space – where it certainly scores over its competition. The latest update has brought a new grille featuring Nissan’s familiar V-shaped chrome element also seen in the Terrano. Globally, the Evalia features a nearly similar design but with a different name: it is known as the Nissan NV200.
Inside, the practical cabin features loads of space and flexible seating configuration. There’s ample amount of space for seven adults and the cargo area is pretty big too. The Evalia offers captain seats for the middle row, optional roof-mounted air conditioning system, tilt adjustable steering wheel, rear- view camera with display, intelligent key, MP3 audio system with front and rear speakers and some more. The sliding rear doors and a dashboard mounted gear lever further add convenience to this already practical cabin.
Engine and Gearbox
The Evalia is powered by a 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine. This 4-cylinder turbocharged unit from Renault Nissan’s engine family is offered in a variety of other cars including the Terrano, Verito, Micra and the Fluence. Producing 85bhp of power and 200Nm of torque, the engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox which helps the MPV deliver a class-leading fuel efficiency figure of 19.3kmpl. This is partly due to the Evalia’s weight which being less, automatically contributes to fuel efficiency.
The Evalia competes with a wide variety of MPVs already on sale in the Indian market. Thanks to its spacious cabin and flexible seating, it is a fitting alternative to the Mahindra Xylo and the Toyota Innova. On the other hand, its on road dynamics enable it to take on mid-size MPVs like Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Honda Mobilio.
