Tyres are what keep you in contact with the road, and they are the most easily overlooked parts in a car. Yokohama India recently launched the Geolandar X-CV crossover and EV tyre range in India, with certain configurations tailored for this market.
These tyres have been around in the international market for quite a while, and an India entry brings in a different size profile. While the Geolandar X-CV range is sized from 18 inches overseas, the India-spec version gets sizes ranging between 16-20 inches. These tyres are also advertised as EV-ready, thanks to their low rolling resistance.
Tyre Specifications
The Geolandar X-CV tyres have an asymmetric tread pattern, which Yokohama says, helps inner treads gain higher wet traction, and on the outer edges, provides better cornering stability. It also utilises a nylon full cover and a 2-ply sidewall for enhanced durability. This sidewall has been engineered, keeping load-bearing from EVs, as well as pothole impact in mind.
These tyres also utilise 2D and 3D combination sipes. For starters, sipes are cuts in tread blocks that expel water and snow. They essentially bite into the road surface, enhancing grip. These sipes reach the depth of the tyre, and Yokohama says this ensures Good grip, even when the tyre starts to wear out.
These tyres also have a five-pitch variation. Pitch variation is essentially a design and gap between tread blocks across the tyre’s circumference to reduce overall road noise. These variations are said to significantly reduce road noise.
Speed and Load Ratings
From 16-20 inches, these tyres have different speed and load ratings. Load ratings stand between 89 (580kg) to 113 (1,150kg). Speed ratings are specified as H (210kmph), V (240kmph), and W (270kmph).
For example, a 113W tyre can take 1,150kg load per tyre, and it can tolerate speeds of up to 270kmph.
Price
The Yokohama XC-V ranges between Rs. 9,200 to Rs. 31,000 per tyre, depending on size, speed, and load ratings.
