Why should you buy the new 2018 Mercedes C-Class

When Mercedes-Benz first began in India, back in the 90s, it was the sedans that marked Mercedes, and the C-Class has been one of their bestsellers over the past two decades. This 2018 Mercedes C-Class is a facelift of the current W205 generation that was launched back in 2014. Launched at Rs 40 lakhs ex-showroom with option of a diesel only, it is available in three trims – Prime, Progressive and AMG in the ascending order of the length of the features list.

    What’s good about it?

Like all facelifts, it gets revised styling for the same body shell with sharper LED headlamps, bumpers that have added aggression and it gets a new set of alloys. But that’s not all, the 2.0-litre diesel engine is Euro 6 compliant and the turbocharged mill is offered in two states of tune – 194bhp and 245bhp. Also the 9-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifts helps you harness all the power and send it to the rear wheels.

The infotainment system is all-new and along with the new screen, the C-Class also offers a host of driver aids and safety options including parking assist and pedestrian protections, along with the standard cocoon of ABS, EBD, ESP and airbags.

What’s not so good about it?

Firstly, there is no petrol variant in this line-up if you are not a fan of the cluttery diesel. Also, it is slightly more expensive than the competition, the top-spec one, but then you have the extra horsepower to justify.

    The best variant to buy?

Right now, the top-spec C300d AMG line seems to the ideal buy because, like always, the prices will slowly start creeping up. Mercedes-Benz might introduce the C220d in the AMG trim and then, that would be the ideal variant to buy, because you will get all the looks and the luxury and will still be going further ahead before you have to fill up fuel.

    Quick Facts

    Did you know?

The Mercedes C-Class was one of the first cars to be built in India at the existing facility in Chakan, Pune. The C-Class, has always been inspired by the S-Class in terms of design until recently when the E-Class also joined in. Also, you can get this Mercedes-Benz C-Class in red if you want to make a statement everywhere you go!
