What else can you buy for the price of a 2017 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

Maruti Suzuki has launched the 2017 S-Cross in India and has priced it in the range of Rs 8.49 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) to Rs 11.29 lakh. It’s the most premium car that Maruti Suzuki makes and this 2017 version is a mid-life update. The looks have been upgraded in the form of a new grille, tail lamps and wheels which have lifted the car. However, Maruti Suzuki has dropped the 1.6-litre diesel and now offers the car only with a 1.3 four-cylinder diesel across four variants.

In terms of the budget range, this is the highest point before the D-segment begins. It is here that Maruti Suzuki wants to make its presence felt and sensing big things ahead, it launched the S-Cross in 2015 and with it a premium chain called Nexa. However, while Nexa has become a huge success, the S-Cross has not done too well and this update is a major effort for numbers.  

The S-Cross’ price range has put it smack in the middle of India’s new plum car buying segment. This price point is where a lot of the compact SUVs, C-segment sedans and even some hatchbacks exist. So, here is what you can buy for the price range of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Sigma-Rs 8.49 lakhs
This is the entry-level version of the S-Cross and its existence is mostly for a low entry point in terms of pricing. You don’t get very many features and what you would be paying for is a large car for the price of a smaller vehicle. For the same kind of money, you can have top spec versions of the Elite i20 diesel, Active i20 petrol, Tata Nexon petrol and the Ameo, as well as the Polo in top spec diesel MT form. The SUV charge here is led by the Mahindra TUV300 T6 Plus and the Renault Duster RXE petrol. Finally the Maruti Ertiga MPV is available here in the VXI AT trim.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Delta- Rs 9.39 lakhs
The Delta version is the second-level model for the S-Cross and sees a major increase in the cabin features as well as a few extra bits on the outside. You get most of the S-Cross’ compact SUV rivals like the EcoSport, Nexon, NuvoSport and the TUV 300 in their top spec variants. However, move one level higher and you will get the Creta and Duster, but in lower spec petrol trims. The hatchback brigade is led by the top spec i20, Polo GT TDI and Jazz while in the sedan models you get the Verna and Ciaz in their second level models.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Zeta- Rs 9.98 lakhs
Throw in Rs 60,000 over the Delta version and you can really step up your choice compared to the S-Cross.  You get a lot more in the cabin in terms of features as well as alloy wheels. From Maruti’s own stables you can have the top of the line Brezza and Ertiga diesel, while the Honda charge is led by the City in the V petrol trim as well as WR-V in the VX diesel option. The SUV charge further comprises the TUV300 T10, Ford EcoSport EcoBoost Titanium and the Creta in the 1.4 diesel E Plus variant.

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Alpha- Rs 11.29 lakhs
This is the most expensive version of the S-Cross and priced at Rs 11.29 lakhs. In addition to the features of the Zeta variant, you also get leather upholstery and LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs and fog lamps as a part of the package. Here you can have the top spec Verna diesel, Vento diesel or Vento petrol AT, Ciaz diesel, Honda City SV diesel or even the Creta 1.4 S diesel. Finally, the Renault Duster is available in the RXS CVT petrol.
