- Production at the carmaker’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant
- 2.0-litre TSI petrol with seven-speed DSG and 4Motion
Volkswagen India has commenced local assembly for the Tayron R-Line at its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant, ahead of its launch in the first quarter of CY26. This is VW's return to the premium three-row SUV game, and it will be positioned above the Tiguan R-Line in their official hierarchy.

The carmaker has already revealed features like dual digital screens, interior, and colour scheme. What's more, it will be offered with the same 2.0-litre TSI petrol present in the Tiguan, producing 201bhp and 320Nm. The powertrain comprises a seven-speed DSG and 4Motion AWD as part of the package. Being a sister car to the Skoda Kodiaq, it rivals the MG Gloster, MG Majestor, and the Toyota Fortuner.

Commenting on the milestone, Nitin Kohli, brand director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said, 'We believe there is a strong demand for premium German-engineered cars here in India, and our plan is to make these cars more accessible to our customers. The Tayron R-Line has rolled off the production line today at the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant, in less than a year since its global launch, and that is our level of commitment to driving growth in India. The most premium SUV from Volkswagen India, the Tayron R-Line, offers true seven-seater space, everyday practicality, and a sporty R-Line design with refined appeal. With production underway, the brand gears up for greater momentum in the premium SUV segment, with a launch slated within the first quarter of 2026.'
