- Available across six trims
- New eight-speed automatic gearbox
The Volkswagen Taigun facelift has been unveiled in India. It is available across six trims, nine colours, and with a new eight-speed gearbox for the 1.0-litre TSI petrol. This is the mid-life update for VW's entry-level SUV and sees it get upgrades on the outside, inside, and for the feature list.
The exterior changes across the table include a new illuminated grille, design for the wheels, and a slightly modified rear design, moving the Taigun in line with other VW SUVs like the Tiguan and Tayron R-Line.
Inside, the German automaker has added a new OS for the infotainment system and a new virtual cockpit for the top-spec models. Other highlights include new upholstery and a rear seat massager along the lines of what its sibling, the Skoda Kushaq, received last month. The top-spec model gets as standard front powered and ventilated seats, full-LED light package, connected car technology, automatic wipers, and powered IRVM. Neither the Taigun nor the Kushaq are offered with Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera. Volkswagen has confirmed that it is working on the former for these models but it is likely only to show up in the next generation of these SUVs.

One of the biggest changes to the Taigun is that the 1.0-litre TSI petrol, the automaker's more widely offered powertrain, will now be offered with an eight-speed AT. The engine produces 114bhp and 178Nm and this gearbox replaces the six-speed AT. The higher-spec GT and GT Plus variants continue with the 1.5-litre TSI petrol producing 148bhp/250Nm and can only be had with a seven-speed DSG. The Taigun has a formidable set of rivals in the form of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, Tata Curvv, and the Tata Sierra.
