Volkswagen could launch a production version of the I.D range of cars by the year 2022. Inside sources say that VW CEO Herbert Diess and VW light commercial vehicle boss Eckhard Scholz are expected to make an announcement regarding the production of the I.D. wing of Volkswagen at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Saturday.
So far the manufacturer has revealed three electric I.D concepts – I.D hatchback, I.D Crozz crossover and the I.D Buzz microbus. I.D hatchback will be the first one to go into production by late 2021. However, it will be limited to European markets initially. Sources also say that the Buzz could make it into production, but that it wouldn't come until a later date – 2025 perhaps.
If the officials mention the I.D. Buzz at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, that would be an indication that the Buzz could also be a product for the international markets. There is a probability that it could be offered both through VW's passenger vehicle dealerships, as well as its LCV (Light commercial vehicle) division. It could also mean that VW is planning larger commercial versions in the I.D range.
