Upcoming Land Rover Defender rendered

Upcoming Land Rover Defender rendered

Everybody is anxiously waiting for the next Land Rover Defender to surface in the market; more so after Land Rover pulled the plug on this legend earlier this year in January.

But, what is it that makes this vehicle so legendary? Land Rover’s Defender was developed from the Land Rover Series (inspired by US-built Willys Jeep) that dates back to the year 1948! After rolling off Land Rover’s assembly lines for 68 years and with close to two million units of the Defender sold worldwide, it’s apparent why it has such a legacy and fan following. Sources suggest that the new Land Rover Defender is expected to debut in the year 2018, and going by the rendered pictures, it seems to be all set to receive a distinctive but retro-inspired look.

The base for this digital rendering was taken from Land Rover’s DC100 Sport concept that made its first appearance at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Land Rover had added back then that the concept was demonstrated to show the world the car that could eventually replace the Defender.

Exterior highlights of the new defender could include a traditional Land Rover grille that’s surrounded by aluminium cladding, and a pair of round projector head lamps with LED technology. Also seen are the flared front fenders that hide the huge off-road tyres and the classic shape of the doors and windows which point to a butch stance.

Land Rover plans to introduce the new Defender in a two-door, four-door, and a pickup with both two and four-door body-styles. Expect the upcoming Defender to be equipped with the latest ‘Ingenium’ diesel unit that could also be mated to their recently announced ‘Transcend’ gearbox.

More on this in the months to come.
