The phoenix has risen from the grave and the resurrected TVR carmaker has trademarked the ‘Griffith’ moniker for their new upcoming sports car. The British sports car maker has been working on an all-new car since its revival in 2013 along with partners Gordon Murray andCosworth.
Although there are other names under consideration as well, the Griffith is reportedly the strongest contender amongst them all. And if the new car does adopt the Griffith insignia, it will be the third generation with that name under the TVR banner.
The new TVR sports car is likely to be revealed this September. According to TVR, they have kept ‘certain essential criteria in mind’ while developing the new car – it will be British in every way and stay true to TVR’s DNA and heritage. The car will be a two-seater coupe/convertible which will run on a V8 front-engine with manual transmission and rear wheel drive and the entire package would be breathtaking in appearance and performance and give incredible value for money.
With the engineering involvement of Cosworth, the V8 under the hood is expected to belt out an excess of 400 horsepower. The extreme weight saving measure will involve an abundant use of exotic materials like carbon fibre and aluminium, tipping the car’s scale at around 1,000-1,200kg. The design hand of Gordon Murray, who gave us the iconic McLaren F1, will ensure a retro-modern styling for the TVR. The 0-100kmph times are expected to be mind boggling with a stratospherical top speed.
The initial models might carry special edition attributes with a bigger price tag and extra exotic materials from Murray’s iStream Carbon design studio.After the first car, the British marque intends to build three more models with further plans of churning out 2,000 vehicles by the year 2022. The cars will be produced at the carmaker’s new facility in Wales instead of the original TVR factory at Blackpool.
