- Brand’s first EV for India
- Based on Maruti e Vitara
Toyota is all set to unveil its first all-electric SUV for India, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, tomorrow on 20 January, 2026. The unveiling marks a significant step for the Japanese brand as it enters the mainstream EV space in the country with a mid-size electric SUV positioned against rivals such as the Hyundai Creta Electric and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
The Urban Cruiser EV is essentially a badge-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara EV, carrying distinct Toyota design cues both outside and inside.
Under the skin, Toyota is expected to offer two LFP battery options – a 48.8 kWh pack producing around 142 bhp and 192.5 Nm, and a 61.1 kWh pack with about 172 bhp and 192.5 Nm, both tailored for front-wheel-drive layouts. Toyota claims a range of up to around 500 km on a single charge.
Pricing for the Urban Cruiser EV is anticipated to start in the region of Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it squarely in the heart of India’s growing EV SUV segment.
