The Toyota Innova Hycross is due for a mid-cycle update, and for the first time, a camouflaged test mule has been spotted on Indian roads. The sighting confirms that development work on the facelift is underway, with a launch expected sometime next year, roughly four years after the Hycross first arrived in India in late 2022.
Given the heavy camouflage, details are limited, but a few changes are visible. The front end appears to have been revised. The grille looks squarer in proportion compared to the current car, and the headlamp clusters hint at sleeker, revised units with new projector elements. The front bumper also appears to have been redesigned. At the rear, new LED tail-lamp internals are visible through the camouflage wrap, while the rest of the profile including the alloy wheel design and overall silhouette appears to be carried over unchanged.
The interior has not been spotted yet, but a refresh of the cabin is expected likely involving new upholstery, revised trim options, and potentially a few feature additions to keep the Hycross competitive in a segment that has seen meaningful updates from rivals in recent months. Whether Toyota uses the facelift to introduce new technology or connectivity features remains to be seen.
On the powertrain front, no changes are anticipated. The Hycross is expected to continue with its existing engine options a 173bhp, 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol paired with a CVT, and a 184bhp, 2.0-litre strong hybrid setup with an e-CVT. The hybrid remains the more popular choice among buyers and is unlikely to be altered.
When it arrives, the facelifted Innova Hycross will continue to compete with its rebadged sibling, the Maruti Suzuki Invicto, while also going up against Mahindra XEV 9S in the electric three-row space.
