Toyota India sales dip 26 per cent in November

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported a 26 per cent drop in November sales to 10,352 units, as compared to corresponding period last year. The Japanese car maker had shut down its plant for 15 days to ramp up production, which is the main reason for the negative numbers.

Sales of utility vehicles remained strong for Toyota with the Innova's numbers improving 9 per cent to 4,682 units and the Fortuner by 19 per cent to 1,025 units. The main decline was in the sales of the Etios Series at 4,231 units as against 8,271 units last year. The company also sold 362 units and 46 units of the Corolla Altis and the Camry respectively.

Commenting on the sales performance Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director, marketing said “The sales have dropped this month due to a plant shut down, to ramp up the annual production capacity from 2,10,000 units to 3,10,00 units,  for the next calendar year. The first plant manufacturing Innova and Fortuner was shut down for a week and the second plant manufacturing Etios, Etios Liva and Camry was shut down for a period of 15 days. The market is yet to pick up pace. We hope to see growth next month due to the year ending sales. The market is expected to grow in the first quarter of next year.”
