Toyota Corolla Altis launched in India at Rs 11.99 lakh

Toyota has launched the eleventh generation Corolla in India, today, for a price tag starting from Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The sedan is named Corolla Altis in India and will be available in nine variants and two engine options.

The new Corolla Altis based on the Furia Concept, is a far cry in terms of styling compared to the its predecessor. The Corolla Altis now gets an aggressive fascia with the elongated twin-barrel LED DRL equipped projector headlamps and the chrome grille giving it a purposeful look. The overall stance of the car is much better and the new Altis is a blend of Toyota virtues and modern styling.

Inside, the Altis has a beige and black theme, with beige in the centre which runs through the doors as well. A twin-pod instrument cluster, multi-function display, climate control system and touch screen audio system complete the interiors.

The Altis retains its engines: the 1.8-litre VVT-i and the 1.4-litre D-4D diesel mill. The 1.8-litre petrol engine now produces 138.1bhp and 173Nm of torque and the diesel motor has similar power ratings. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and an option of an automatic gearbox (CVT) is offered only with the petrol engine.

The eleventh gen Corolla Altis carries its traditional virtues of reliability, comfort and easy to maintain. The flagging D-Segment sales is a slightly alarming, but who knows we may have just found the answer in the Corolla Altis.

Mr. Naomi Ishii, Managing Director said, “Corolla is the world’s most favourite car. It is the world’s No 1 car with more than 40 million cars sold across the globe. The Corolla accounts for one in every five vehicles sold by Toyota in the 76 - year history. 1969 was the start of its 33 year run as best - selling car in Japan. With global cumulative sales exceeding 22.65 million units, in 1997 the Corolla became the world’s best – selling nameplate. More than a million units have been sold each year since 2002. We are glad to launch the 11th generation of this global car in India.”
