
The Tata Sierra EV has finally made its India debut, bringing back an iconic nameplate now in an electric avatar. While it takes on a host of mid-size electric SUVs, there is one rival that stands out for offering something very few in this segment do, an all-wheel-drive powertrain. That rival is the Vinfast VF7. Here's a detailed comparison of how these two electric SUVs stack up on design, features, specifications, and pricing.
Design and Dimensions
Styling is always subjective, and these two SUVs take completely different approaches. The Tata Sierra EV leans heavily on its heritage-inspired design, blending retro elements with a bold and upright SUV stance. The Vinfast VF7, on the other hand, adopts a more futuristic design language with a low-slung profile, sharp lines, and proportions that make it look more like a crossover than a conventional SUV.

On paper, the Vinfast VF7 is the larger vehicle. It measures 4,550mm in length, making it around 95mm longer than the Sierra EV. It is also wider and has a longer wheelbase, which should translate into a more planted stance and improved cabin space. The Sierra EV, however, is taller, giving it a more commanding road presence and traditional SUV appeal.

Both SUVs come equipped with modern design elements such as LED headlamps, LED DRLs, 19 inch alloy wheels, and flush-fitting door handles. As a result, both look contemporary, despite following vastly different styling philosophies.
Interior and Features
The biggest differentiator between the two lies inside the cabin. Tata has packed the Sierra EV with technology, making it one of the most feature-rich offerings in its class. It gets a triple screen layout, a powered co-driver seat, a 540-degree surround view camera, and a 12-speaker JBL sound system, features that are not available on the Vinfast VF7.

That said, the VF7 still covers all the essentials. It features a 12.9-inch central touchscreen that controls most vehicle functions and also replaces the conventional instrument cluster, with driving information displayed via a head-up display. It also comes with a large fixed panoramic glass roof, a powered driver's seat, wireless phone charging, Level 2 ADAS, and a powered tailgate.
Overall, while the Sierra EV clearly offers a more premium and technology rich cabin experience, the VF7 still delivers a comprehensive feature list and a comparatively larger cabin space.
Battery and Range
Performance is another area where these two SUVs stand apart. Both are among the very few models in the segment to offer dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations.

The Tata Sierra EV's QWD variant uses a 75kWh battery pack paired with a 138bhp front motor and a 207bhp rear motor. Tata claims a combined torque output of 315Nm and a MIDC-certified driving range of up to 624km.

The Vinfast VF7, meanwhile, is powered by a 70kWh battery pack with dual electric motors producing a combined 349bhp and 500Nm of peak torque. It offers a claimed driving range of up to 510km.
While the Sierra EV has the advantage in outright driving range, the VF7 comfortably leads on performance, offering significantly higher power and torque figures.
Price
The Vinfast VF7 is priced from Rs. 21.89 lakh to Rs. 26.79 lakh, ex-showroom, and is available in three variants.

The Tata Sierra EV, meanwhile, is offered in five variants, with prices ranging from Rs. 18.79 lakh to Rs. 25.99 lakh, ex-showroom. This makes the Sierra EV nearly Rs. 3 lakh more affordable at the entry level, while its top-end variant is still around Rs. 80,000 cheaper than the range-topping VF7.

For buyers looking for a feature-packed electric SUV with a longer claimed range and more accessible pricing, the Sierra EV makes a compelling case. Those prioritising outright performance, sharper styling, and a more driver-focused character may find the Vinfast VF7 to be the more appealing choice.
