Tata Motors has launched the petrol-powered Safari in India, with prices starting at Rs. 13.29 lakh and going up to Rs. 25.19 lakh, ex-showroom. The flagship three-row SUV now receives a petrol option alongside the diesel, expanding its appeal to a wider set of buyers.
Powering the Safari petrol is Tata’s new 1.5-litre Turbo GDi engine, which produces 168bhp and 280Nm of peak torque. The engine is offered with a six-speed manual gearbox as well as a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The Safari petrol is offered in a comprehensive variant lineup that includes Smart, Pure X, Adventure X Plus, Accomplished X, Accomplished X Plus, Accomplished Ultra, and Red Dark editions. Select trims are available in both six-seat and seven-seat configurations, with manual and automatic gearbox options spread across the range. On the safety front, all Safari petrol variants have secured a five-star Bharat NCAP rating.
Feature highlights include a new and larger 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Dolby Atmos audio, front and camera washer, digital and electronic IRVM with integrated dashcam, memory ORVMs with auto reverse dip, and powered and ventilated front seats along with an enhanced Level 2 ADAS suite.
Concurrently, Mahindra has also launched the XUV 7XO, positioned in a similar price bracket. The XUV 7XO is priced from Rs. 13.66 lakh, ex-showroom for the manual, while the automatic range tops out at Rs. 21.97 lakh, ex-showroom, intensifying competition in the SUV segment.
