- Will be offered with the AT and MT options
- Likely to have a reduction of Rs. 1 lakh over equivalent diesel variants
Commitment reaffirmed
Tata has reaffirmed that it will launch petrol-powered versions of the Harrier and the Safari later this financial year. The engine in question is Tata’s new 1.5-litre TGDi petrol engine, producing 168bhp and 280Nm. It is expected to be offered with either a six-speed MT or a seven-speed DCT. The automaker already has a 1.2-litre TGDi in the Curvv, and this engine produces 118bhp and 170Nm, which can further be had with either a six-speed MT or a seven-speed DCT.

This is the most significant upgrade for the Harrier and the Safari since their mid-life update in late 2023. It will be the first time that the Harrier and this second-generation Safari are getting petrol powertrains. We expect a price difference of up to Rs. 1 lakh between the equivalent petrol and diesel models, both in terms of variants and transmission options.
Harrier EV Launch
However, before these petrol versions hit the market, Tata is launching the flagship Harrier EV on 3 June. It is expected to have a range of around 500km, offer the same feature list as its ICE sibling, and debut dual-motor 4WD tech - a first for Tata in its new generation vehicles.
