The Tata Punch has emerged as one of the safest compact SUVs on sale in India, securing a five-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP). The Made-in-India model was tested in 2025, with the results published in 2026, and the rating applies to select petrol and CNG variants of the Punch.

In the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) assessment, the Tata Punch scored an impressive 30.58 points out of a maximum of 32. The structure of the vehicle was rated stable, offering strong protection in both frontal offset and side impact crash tests. The Punch recorded 14.71 points out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test, and 15.87 points out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test.
Child Occupant Protection (COP) performance was equally strong, with the Punch scoring 45 points out of 49. The vehicle achieved full marks in the dynamic test section and the CRS installation assessment, with rearward-facing child seats installed using ISOFIX anchorages. BNCAP noted that the Punch offers ISOFIX mounts and a manual passenger airbag cut-off function, helping it deliver near-full protection for child occupants under test conditions.

The tested Punch comes equipped with a comprehensive safety package as standard, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, seat belt reminders for all occupants, and side curtain airbags. Pedestrian protection and other safety assist technologies also contributed to the overall result.
