The schedule for the Tata Nano CNG variant to be launched in October during the festive season hasn’t changed. This was confirmed to Financial Express by a Tata motors spokesperson recently.
The report suggests that shortage of some parts may have affected the unveiling. It is believed that these parts are required for the installation of the CNG Kit. A vendor said that only few orders of the parts had been placed by the carmaker and the launch might be affected as new parts had not been ordered for the upgradation. Tata, On the other hand, has denied any changes in the plan and have in fact opened bookings with a few dealers in Mumbai and Delhi confirming the product to be in the market by this month.
Reports suggest that The CNG cylinder has been uniquely placed under the driver’s seat without making any further changes to the regular Nano. The engine currently produces 37bhp @ 5500 RPM and 51Nm of torque @ 4000 RPM. So for a considerable 10-15percent drop in power with the use of CNG this innovative product will produce about 32-33bhp @ 5500 RPM and around 45Nm of torque @ 3500 RPM. The drop in power would be negligible looking at the fuel-efficiency and low running costs with the use of CNG.
The sales of the Tata Nano have not been too good over the last year. It is likely that Tata will be banking on this model to bring it back in the numbers game. When launched, the Nano CNG will compete with the Alto 800CNG.
