- 1.5-litre Hyperion Turbo Petrol Engine
- Available with Six-speed AT and MT
New Powertrain
Details of the much-anticipated Tata Harrier petrol and Safari petrol have been revealed. The engine in question is Tata's 1.5-litre Hyperion petrol, producing 168bhp and 280Nm. It can be had with a six-speed AT or a six-speed MT. As expected, this is a higher state of tune compared to the same engine in the Sierra, where it produces 158bhp and 255Nm. We have driven the car, and you can find the video listed below.

Variants on Offer
In essence, these are the same variants offered with the diesel models, and here for the petrol, the Harrier can be had in the Smart, Pure X, Pure X Dark, Adventure, Adventure X Dark, Fearless X, Fearless X Dark, and Fearless X Stealth.
It's a similar story for the Safari, where the three-row SUV is being offered in the Smart, Pure, Pure X Dark, Adventure X+, Adventure X+ Dark, Accomplished X, Accomplished X+, Accomplished X+ Dark, Accomplished X Stealth, Accomplished X Ultra, and Accomplished X Red Dark.

Larger Picture
Whilst Tata has not announced prices for both the cars at the time of writing this story, we expect it to be priced Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1.5 lakh lesser than the equivalent diesel trims. It opens up the Harrier and Safari range to a wider market that seeks a larger car but without diesel power, but also places like the NCR and Gujarat, where petrol is popular. Tata is also expected to start exports of the Sierra and Harrier now that it offers them with petrol power too. Rivals for this Harrier and Safari petrol include petrol versions of the Mahindra XUV700/7XO, MG Hector and Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar, Kia Carens Clavis, and the Mahindra Thar Roxx and Scorpio-N.
