Showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo as the 45X, the all-new Tata Altroz has been spotted once again undergoing testing under heavy camouflage. The Altroz is Tata’s take on the premium hatchback segment and it is expected to go on sale in India around the festive season.
The production-ready version of the Altroz made its public debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and was also spotted sans camouflage at the carmaker’s Pimpri facility a few weeks ago. It hasn´t been confirmed yet, however, whether Tata has commenced the production of the Altroz in India yet.
Based on the new ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture) architecture, the Altroz spouses the IMPACT 2.0 design philosophy (which will also inspire the Tiago facelift). It will be one of the most handsome looking hatchbacks in its class and will also be most feature-laden of the lot. Its sharp-looking exterior will be complemented by a premium and comfortable cabin which will be compliant with all the safety norms kicking in soon.
Under the hood, the Altroz is expected to come with three powertrain options – two petrol and one diesel. While the Geneva-spec car featured a 1.2-litre petrol motor producing 100bhp/140Nm, the other gasoline engine on offer will be a smaller Tiago-sourced 1.2-litre Revotron motor that puts out 84bhp/114Nm. The diesel, on the other hand, will be the 90bhp 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel mill from the Tata Nexon.
When launched, the Altroz is expected to fall in the Rs 6 to 9 lakh price bracket where it will face stiff competition from well-established rivals such as Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo.
