- To sit between the Venue and the Creta
- Petrol and CNG could be part of the package
Hyundai has another big, or rather 4.2-metre ‘big’, SUV lined up for launch in India. This new SUV will carry the ‘Bayon’ nametag from the international market but will feature a completely new top hat specifically for the Indian market.

This new SUV will sit between the Venue and the Creta, and now that we have seen so many spy pictures of the car doing the rounds on the internet, here’s our interpretation of what the new Hyundai Bayon could look like.

Like what Maruti did with the Victoris, the Bayon will not have the upright proportions of a traditional compact SUV but will feature a crossover-type top hat with an understated design language. Of course, you will find all the typical Hyundai bits, be it the sleek DRLs up front, which could have a connecting look like the Verna, or the squared-off wheel arches and body creases as seen on the Exter.

Having said that, the rear profile will have an identity of its own, with sleek LED taillamps and a flat tailgate design.
Now, the important bit is what sort of cabin the new Bayon will have. As per the spy pictures, we are going to see an all-new dashboard layout with curved twin screens, along with a new ‘logo’-less steering wheel, new door pads with circular grab handles, and lighter upholstery to go with the overall theme. One of the spy pictures also had the champagne gold exterior colour, along with the ‘Auto’ badge on the fender, hinting towards a new colour option and the mechanical offerings.
Talking about the mechanicals, the Bayon will have a crucial role to play. It will rival the most in-trend SUV currently, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. Hence, it has to have a sorted powertrain option, which we believe will comprise a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine mated to a six-speed manual and even a CVT gearbox. That said, Hyundai will also not miss out on CNG, which could be part of the package with the new Bayon for India.
By the looks of it, and if the render is spot on, we have a very distinctive-looking Hyundai SUV with all the right recipes to have a solid sales start in the country. It will all come down to the way the SUV is marketed and positioned, while the pricing will ultimately decide the fate of the Bayon.
