Skoda Octavia Onyx launched: Top five features

Czech car manufacturer Skoda has launched the Octavia Onyx in India at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 19.99 lakhs. The special edition model is available in three colour options – candy white, race blue and corrida red. Read below to learn more about the top five highlights of the newly launched Octavia Onyx –

Exterior 

The Octavia Onyx gets all-black design elements. It comes with a large butterfly grille with chrome surrounds and the Quadra headlamps with CystalGlo LED daytime running lights. The vehicle sits on glossy black R16 premia alloy wheels and wing mirror housings that accentuate its dynamic appearance. Additionally, the carbon black door foils further enhance its coupe-like silhouette. The sporty C-shaped illumination is complemented by the glossy black spoiler. 

Interior

The Octavia Onyx gets a premium black leather upholstery and decor with chrome highlights. The three-spoke SuperSport flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel with paddle-shift and black perforated leather give the vehicle an emotive and authentic appearance with a strong identity of its own. The feature list further includes twelve-way electrically-adjustable driver and front passenger seats with lumbar support. Moreover, the driver seat offers three programmable memory functions. The Onyx edition gets a 20.32 cm touchscreen central infotainment system.

Engine 

Under the hood, the Skoda Octavia Onyx is powered by a 1.8 TSI petrol engine and the 2.0 TDI diesel engine. The former is paired to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission while the latter is mated to a six-speed DSG automatic unit. The petrol version is claimed to sprint from 0-100kmph in 7.7 seconds and has a top speed of 233kmph. The diesel version is capable of sprinting from 0-100kmph in just about 9.2-seconds and can attain a top speed of 213kmph. 

Safety

The standard safety equipment in the Octavia Onyx includes six airbags - dual front airbags, a set of front side airbags, and additional curtain airbags at the front and rear. Apart from this, the vehicle also gets ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ESC (Electronic Stability Control), EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), MBA (Mechanical Brake Assist), MKB (Multi Collision Brake), HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist), ASR (Anti Slip Regulation), and EDL (Electronic Differential Lock). 

Additionally, the Octavia Onyx gets AFS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) function for optimum illumination of the road and its surroundings. These headlamps can respond to speed changes as well as to various light and weather conditions. The AFS system includes headlamp swivelling and cornering functions, in addition to a dynamic headlamp inclination.

Skoda Shield Plus

Skoda claims to offer six years of hassle-free ownership experience by introducing the Skoda Shield Plus. This incorporates motor insurance, 24x7 roadside assistance, and an extended warranty. Earlier, Skoda India offered the country’s first four-year service care programme which included four-year warranty, four-year roadside assistance, and an optional four-year maintenance package.
