Renault partners up for autonomous tech

Renault CEO and Chairman, Carlos Ghosn announced a strategic development agreement with Chronocam, a developer of biologically inspired vision sensors and computer vision solutions for automotive applications. 

Renault’s agreement with Chronocam will allow the latter’s innovative approach to sensing and processing visual inputs to Renault’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving developments. So how does the tech really help with such automotive applications? Chronocam has deep expertise in neuromorphic vision sensing, which mimics the human eye. So, it allows for quicker detection of people and obstacles, enhanced robustness of the camera to adapt and detect in varied environmental conditions.

It is claimed that the overall cost of implementation can also be lowered, which makes ADAS accessible to more vehicles. Improvement in safety can be seen through collision avoidance, driver assistance, pedestrian protection, blind spot detection and other critical functions of both manned and autonomous vehicles.
