One Showroom, Five Models?
Renault is going big over the next two years, and has announced that it will launch five new vehicles, the likes of which include updates/next-generations for the Triber and the Kiger, two new premium SUVs, and an EV. These are Renault’s ticket to achieving a three per cent market share by 2030. Backing this strategy will be a plan to sell all these cars under one roof. The automaker has said that all its cars will be sold from one showroom, with no plans to set up a separate premium chain.

Renault recently revealed its new global showroom identity, with the very first of this chain going operational in India. The move to have a one-showroom plan can be looked at in two ways:
- The first is that Renault’s future range is moving up the chain and will ultimately consist of ‘premium’ cars, making little sense to separate the Kwid, Triber, and the Kiger from the next three vehicles. One of these cars will be an EV that’s expected to arrive in the Rs 17 lakh to Rs 22 lakh price bracket.
- Renault has been expanding its footprint across the country, and it only makes sense to have one identity rather than separating its buyers. This will especially be true in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, the next big growth agents of India’s car story.
Going Against the Tide?
This has been a common approach taken by many of Renault’s rivals to separate their budget cars from their more premium models. At the top step of this approach is Maruti with its Nexa chain, which is one of the most successful when it comes to taking this route. Hyundai sells its N Line cars from specific outlets, Tata has segregated its EV and ICE range, while MG is the latest and will start its Select line of showrooms to sell NEVs in India.
