- Sales drop by over 40 per cent
- Hybrid powertrain to arrive by November 2026
The Renault Duster made a strong comeback when it launched in India in March this year at a starting introductory price of Rs. 10.49 lakh, ex-showroom. Deliveries of the 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo petrol variants kicked off in mid-April, and the initial response from buyers was encouraging. But the May 2026 sales numbers show a natural correction that is worth looking at in context.
The Duster recorded 2,359 unit sales in April 2026. By May, that figure stood at 1,267 units, a decline of over 40 per cent month-on-month. It is a pattern that is fairly common for newly launched cars, where the first wave of bookings and deliveries drives the initial surge. This kind of trend is typical in the segment and does not necessarily reflect a long-term trend, particularly for a car that is still in it’s early months on sale.
The broader Renault India picture mirrors this trend. The brand recorded total sales of 4,113 units in May, a 24 per cent drop from April's 5,413 units. The Duster, as Renault's flagship product and primary volume driver, naturally has an outsized impact on these overall numbers.

It is worth noting, however, that the Duster's story is not complete yet. The hybrid powertrain variant, which could prove to be the most compelling addition to the lineup, is expected to arrive by November 2026. The Duster is already a well-equipped car, offering a 10-inch Google Built-in infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, cooled seats, climate control, panoramic sunroof, LED headlamps, 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS. A hybrid powertrain could meaningfully widen its appeal, particularly among efficiency-conscious buyers who have been waiting on the sidelines. Whether it is enough to sustain momentum in an increasingly competitive mid-size SUV segment remains to be seen.
