Nissan India is celebrating the 68th Republic Day by making a unique record attempt with its supercar. By carving out the world’s largest outline of the Indian map by a GT-R, Nissan India is set to enter into the Limca Book of Records.
Picking the Sambhar Lake in Rajasthan as the venue, the high precision Nissan GT-R made the record attempt of etching the Indian map spanning over three square kilometres. According to the Japanese manufacturer, the map was created by plotting the coordinates on a GPS device and multiple laps were attempted to approximate the actual map and ensure the accuracy. The GT-R’s driving performance, power and handling prowess were put to its ultimate test, as it manoeuvred around the turns and corners in order to trace the complex shape of the map on the sandy surface in a dry section of the lake. Behind the steering wheel of this record attempt was professional rally driver Rahul Kanthraj.
The inscribed map spans over three kilometres in length and is 2.8kilometre wide and has a total peripheral length of 14.7kilometres. Once certified, this unique attempt would enter the 2018 edition of the Limca Book of World Records which would be published in June next year.
Famously known as the Godzilla, the R35 GT-R is a successor to the legendary Skyline GT-R. Powering the GT-R is a hand-built 3.8-litre twin turbocharged V6 pumping out 570bhp and 637Nm of torque. The six-speed dual clutch transmission sends power to all four wheels, sprinting the car from 0-100kmph in under 3seconds and the top speed is 315kmph. The GT-R has been finally launched in India last month with a price tag of Rs 1.99 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).
