Next-gen Nissan Micra spied testing again

Nissan’s mid-size global hatch Micra is due for a generation change and the upcoming model has been spotted on test yet again. The latter will be based on Nissan’s CMF platform and is slated to be manufactured at Renault’s Flins plant in France. This means the Euro-spec model will no longer be manufactured in Chennai, India, under the Renault-Nissan alliance. 

This change of production plant is attributed to the all-new platform and the fact that Nissan wants to improve the build quality of the next generation model. Looking at the heavily camouflaged prototypes, it looks as if the Micra is going to be as heavily styled as the Sway concept, featuring the characteristic Nissan V-shaped grille flanked by sleek headlamps, an aggressive front bumper and sculpted hood. 

The production model will also adopt the concept’s floating roof design and C-shaped taillight enclosures. The next-gen Micra will be powered by a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine that could develop 109bhp and 145 Nm. 

Expect Nissan to launch the new Micra sometime next year in Europe, followed by other markets (including India) later in the year.
