- To be produced by Chery Automobiles in China
- Will be EV-only
The Land Rover Freelander badge will make a comeback in 2026 after more than a decade. But there is a catch, it will be an EV-only model and will be produced by LR’s Chinese partner, Chery, at their Changsu factory. The latter’s EV platform will underpin the car, and be a series of vehicles that will first be offered in China before moving on to other markets.
Official information from a joint statement made by both companies indicates that creative inputs will come from both Chery and JLR, hinting at multiple top hats that could vary depending on the country and the badge. The information also indicates that the Freelander will move up in terms of positioning when compared to the last iteration that was on sale in the early part of the previous decade.
There is no word on any details about the car or even spy images of its testing, giving us very little idea (at the moment) of what is in the pipeline. But we can be sure of a range over 600km, comprehensive dual motor AWD system, and a massive feature list befitting the Land Rover badge. Given LR’s push in India, it is more than likely that this next-gen Freelander will come to India with the Land Rover badge.
