Ford F-150 hybrid spied testing

What you see in the pictures is the Ford F-150 hybrid test mule doing the rounds in Michigan, USA. 

The F-150 hybrid was confirmed by CEO Mark Fields earlier this month, and is expected to hit the market in the year 2020. The hybrid system has been in the works for quite some time now, and the plug-in capability is highlighted through the charge point that’s visible through the camouflage.  

This hybrid test car also uses a visibly thinner track when compared to the current F-150. It is possible that narrower axles could be in use to reduce the drag, and keep everything a bit lighter. This would essentially make it easier for the hybrid powertrain to lug the weight of the truck.

Based on the engine sound emitted from this F-150 hybrid test mule, it is likely that a four-cylinder engine (instead of a V6) was coupled to the electric powertrain. Expect the 310bhp 2.3-litre Ecoboost motor to find its way into this hybrid truck. Also, sources noted that the prototype was able to accelerate quickly, both in city and highway driving conditions.
