Just days before its scheduled global debut, we have got our hands on the official images of the new generation Hyundai i20, revealing the hatchback in it’s production avatar. The images provide a detailed look at the redesigned exterior, completely revamped interior and several new features that will be offered with the updated hatchback.
The latest iteration of the i20 marks a significant departure from its predecessor in terms of styling. Up front, the hatchback adopts a sharper and more futuristic design language, highlighted by a full-width light bar that integrates into the LED projector headlamps. The headlamps themselves feature a distinctive Y-shaped lighting signature. While Hyundai is yet to disclose the dimensions, the new i20 appears to have a more planted stance thanks to redesigned bumpers and a fresh set of dual-tone 17 inch alloy wheels. The side profile is characterised by a flat roofline that extends towards a more upright rear section. At the back, the design mirrors the front with a connected lighting element stretching across the tailgate.
The changes inside the cabin are even more comprehensive. The dashboard has been completely redesigned and now features a cleaner layout. Dominating the cabin is a curved display housing both the digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system. The hatchback also gets a new steering wheel design featuring Hyundai's Morse code-inspired 'H' identity, similar to what has been seen on the new Venue and Verna.
Hyundai has also revised the climate control layout, placing the controls within a vertically oriented centre stack flanked by air vents on either side. Despite the increased focus on digital interfaces, the company has retained several physical buttons for infotainment and vehicle functions, a move that should enhance ease of use while driving.
The images also reveal a wireless charging pad, dual USB Type C ports, drive mode selector and a leather-finished gear lever. Further elevating the cabin experience are dual-tone leather upholstered seats, along with a centre console that incorporates cupholders and a storage equipped armrest.
Internationally, the new generation i20 will be available in Comfort, Limited, X Line, Platinum and Ultimate trims. Hyundai is yet to disclose the powertrain options for global markets.
As for India, the new generation i20 is expected to continue with the familiar engine options currently on sale. These include the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and the 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor.
