MG had an official unveiling lined up for 26 August but the internet got there first. The brand's upcoming seven-seater electric SUV widely referred to online as the Hector Hawk or the Tomahawk has been spotted undisguised on public roads during a television commercial shoot, and the images confirm several details ahead of the official debut.
The first and most important confirmation from the sighting is the powertrain. There had been speculation online about whether this would be a pure electric or a plug-in hybrid. The undisguised pictures confirm it is a full BEV. Based on the global-spec Wuling Starlight 560, the India-bound model is expected to draw from the same platform's powertrain options that include 56.7kWh and a 69.2kWh battery pack, both paired with a single electric motor setup and a claimed range of up to 500km. Whether India gets both battery options or a single configuration is yet to be confirmed by MG.
On the outside, the car measures 4.7metres in length with a 2,810mm wheelbase placing it in the mid-size seven-seater SUV segment. The sighting reveals LED headlamps with dual horizontal LED DRLs, roof rails, a panoramic sunroof, and dual-tone alloy wheels with a swirl pattern design. The colour scheme spotted is an olive green body with a gloss black roof.
The interior has not been visible in the spy shots, but MG's own teasers have given away some details. Expect a beige-themed cabin with a two-spoke steering wheel design and a dual-screen setup, a smaller unit for the instrument cluster and a larger touchscreen as the centrepiece infotainment display.
In MG's electric lineup, this seven-seater will slot above the Windsor EV and ZS EV, but well below the premium M9 MPV, filling a gap the brand currently has in the mid-size electric SUV space and giving buyers a seven-seat electric option that will rival the Mahindra XEV 9S, BYD eMAX 7, and the upcoming Tata Safari EV.
