- Rivals the Toyota Hilux
- Powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine
MG is a brand that aims to have a car in every possible segment. The lineup already includes entry-level SUVs, electric SUVs, full-size SUVs, sedans, and even the Cyberster electric supercar. Now, the automaker has identified a gap in the market, and has entered the pickup truck segment with the all-new MG U9.

The MG U9 is a hot new entrant in the pickup space, and is ready to take on the Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger globally. It spans 5.5m long, 2m wide, and 1.87m high, with a wheelbase of approximately 3.3m, putting it in the mid-size pickup category.

In terms of capability, the U9 is rated with an approach angle of 29 degrees, and a departure angle of 25 degrees. It can carry a payload of 870kg and tow up to 3,500kg.

Powering the U9 is a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. This unit produces 215bhp and 520Nm of peak torque. Higher-spec variants also benefit from a three-lock differential system, and a transfer case for added off-road ability.

Now, coming to the variants and prices, the U9 is offered in three trims – Explore, Explore X, and Explore Pro – priced between AUD 52,990 and AUD 60,990 (Rs. 31-35 lakh).
