MG has revealed a tech roadmap that offers a glimpse into the brand's future powertrain and driver assistance strategy. Unveiled during the company's Tech Day in the UK, the announcement focuses on next-generation plug-in hybrid technology, semi-solid-state battery development, and more advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), with most of these expected to arrive from 2027 onwards.
At the heart of the roadmap is MG's all-new Plug-in Hybrid+ powertrain. The system will use newly developed 1.1-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines paired with a new hybrid transmission featuring power-split and motor decoupling technology. According to MG, the setup is designed to improve fuel efficiency while delivering stronger performance and a quieter electric driving experience. The first production model to feature this technology will be the next-generation ZS Plug-in Hybrid+, scheduled for launch in 2027.
MG has also confirmed that its future plug-in hybrids will adopt the company's SolidCore Battery technology. Based on a semi-solid-state battery architecture, the technology is claimed to offer more consistent power delivery, better performance in extreme temperatures, and improved range stability compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. Three upcoming SUVs across different segments are expected to use this battery technology.
The brand's roadmap extends beyond electrification. MG says it has collected over 1.2 million kilometres of real-world driving data across 24 European countries to develop ADAS features better suited to everyday driving conditions. One of the key additions is an advanced automated parking system capable of handling more than 300 different parking scenarios, including unmarked parking spaces. The system also includes features such as automated pull-out assistance and reverse path memory for up to 100 metres.
Although these technologies have been announced primarily for European markets, they provide an indication of the direction MG is taking as it expands its electrified and software-defined vehicle portfolio. Given MG Motor India's growing focus on electric mobility and connected technologies, some of these innovations could eventually find their way to future products for the Indian market.
