- Initially a CBU, now set for local production
- Mechanically unchanged
Mercedes-Benz launched the Celebration Edition of the GLS SUV. Priced at Rs. 4.10 crore, it celebrates the success of the GLS SUV in India. In a first, the carmaker has also committed to locally produce the GLS SUV at its Pune plant, making India the first market outside the United States to locally produce the same.
Key highlights include two individual rear seats with a full-length centre console with an integrated MBUX tablet, active suspension system, Manufaktur package with nappa leather surrounds, Manufaktur Exclusive leather Package with the window frame upholstered in nappa leather, 29-speaker 1,610W Burmester audio with Dolby Atmos, Energizing Package Plus with seat climate control and multi-contour seats with massage function, folding rear tables, refrigerated compartment, 360-degree camera, dual-tone paint, and 23-inch wheels.

Mechanically, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS is powered by a 4.0L V8 motor, tuned to churn out up to 550bhp/770Nm, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission system. A 0-100kmph sprint takes 4.9 seconds, and the GLS tops out at 250kmph.

India is one of the five strategic markets for Mercedes-Maybach, and the carmaker claims that it will be able to keep up with rising demand for the GLS through local production, which was otherwise retailed via the CBU route since 2021.
