Maruti will reveal its second electric car in India early next year at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Expo. While the carmaker has not confirmed which model or base this new offering will form, we have two contenders that make it to the top of our list.
The first car is a three-row electric MPV based on the Ertiga. This model has already been spotted testing across the country, and given the rising competition in the electric MPV segment, it makes sense for Maruti to join the bandwagon. That said, it could be positioned below the Carens Clavis EV when it comes to pricing, which could make it the most affordable three-row MPV in India.
Our second hunch is that Maruti could be working on an electric derivative of the Brezza or the Fronx. Given the popularity of an electric offering in these segments, it becomes the obvious choice given the situation. The sub-four-metre electric SUV segment currently consists of the Tata Nexon EV, Kia Syros EV, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. The Fronx EV version could also go on to compete with the likes of the Tata Punch EV and the Citroen eC3 X. Maruti has also confirmed that it is working on an eight-SUV onslaught for the local market, with the first model, the Victoris, already on sale, and the rest of the models set to debut by 2030.
