Maruti Suzuki S-Cross spied in Shimla

Two years ago Maruti Suzuki took a shot at introducing premium vehicles for the Indian market and launched a flagship cross-over, the S-Cross. The crossover was sold exclusively at ‘Nexa’ dealerships to offer a premium experience to the customers. Today, Maruti Suzuki is planning on giving their flagship crossover a midlife update and our spies have caught a prototype on camera.

The vehicle is heavily camouflaged, however, it still carries the silhouette of its predecessor. The new car is expected to have a restyled front with vertically slatted chrome grille and a redesigned skid plate up front. The headlamp assembly is expected to be tweaked and is expected to house DRLs, projectors and cornering lamps. In the spy pictures, the side profile displays the door mounted wing mirror and the new car will continue to carry quarter windows for better visibility. The prototype exhibits a new set of alloy wheels, however, the new car is expected to be offered with a set of 17 inch alloy wheels as an optional package. The rear end of the new car is also expected to be reworked and the new vehicle is expected to house a restyled tail lamp.

The new car could be powered by the same 1.3-litre DDiS diesel motor producing 90bhp. However, it is speculated that Maruti Suzuki could ditch the 1.6-litre diesel motor and the company is working on a new in-house 1.5-litre diesel mill. The facelift S-Cross is currently on sale in the international market with a variety of engines on offer. However, the domestic market will see only diesel variants across all trims.

It is quite likely that the new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross may be showcased at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo early next year and the crossover could go on sale soon after its unveiling. In its segment, the new S-Cross will rival against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the Hyundai Creta.
