Earlier this month, spy shots revealed a test mule of the new Brezza facelift testing with an underbody CNG kit, hinting that the model could receive this update with the launch of the refreshed version. Now, fresh pictures showcase another test mule with emission-testing equipment. But what does this signal for the customer?
Maruti currently offers the Brezza only with the 1.5-litre K15C NA petrol engine, paired with five-speed manual and six-speed torque converter automatic units. Since the updated model is undergoing tests for emissions, we reckon this could be a new powertrain set to arrive soon.
The 1.5-litre mill doesn’t currently allow Maruti to take advantage of the sub-four-metre SUV ruling, which should feature an engine with a capacity of 1200cc or less in order to qualify for a lower tax bracket. The company could thus use the 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine, available only with the Fronx at the moment. While a 1.2-litre NA petrol motor could also have been an option, this motor doesn’t come paired to a six-speed manual gearbox that the updated Brezza has been spied with in the recent past, hence ruling out the former. Additionally, it makes more sense to add a turbo-petrol powertrain as it is not just an accepted powertrain, but a popular one at that too, offered with rivals like the Skoda Kylaq, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger, and the Nissan Magnite.
A few other notable differences visible in the spy images of the 2026 Maruti Brezza include revised front and rear bumpers, tweaked grille design, and repositioned fog light clusters. The front bumper also carries what seems to be an ADAS sensor.
