Mahindra appears to be leaving no stone unturned with the development of the upcoming Vision S. The rugged SUV has now been spotted testing in the mountains, taking on rough, unpaved trails that seem to be the perfect playground for what could become one of the brand's most capable lifestyle SUVs yet. More importantly, these repeated sightings suggest that the production version is inching closer to its official debut.
If there is one SUV design that has become hugely popular over the last few years, it is the upright, boxy silhouette. While the Land Rover Defender played a major role in bringing this styling back into the spotlight, several manufacturers have followed suit with their own interpretation. Mahindra's answer is the Vision S, first showcased last year, and it has generated plenty of excitement ever since.
The latest spy images show the SUV navigating rocky mountain tracks with ease, reinforcing Mahindra's intention of giving it genuine off-road credentials. Even under heavy camouflage, the Vision S's squared-off proportions are hard to miss. The flat roofline, upright windscreen, chunky wheel arches, and tailgate-mounted spare wheel all contribute to a purposeful and rugged appearance. Short overhangs and what appears to be generous ground clearance further hint at its adventure-focused character.
Although the cabin remains hidden, the production-spec Vision S is expected to feature a thoroughly modern and functional interior. Mahindra could equip it with a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, and a premium audio system. On the safety front, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, electronic stability control, and all-wheel disc brakes are expected to be part of the package.
The Vision S will be underpinned by Mahindra's new NU_IQ platform, which has been developed to support both internal combustion and electric powertrains. While official specifications are still under wraps, the SUV is expected to be offered in ICE and all-electric form. Four-wheel drive is also likely to be available on higher variants, further strengthening its off-road credentials.
With testing now moving into challenging terrain, the Vision S appears to be entering the final stages of development. Once launched, it is expected to slot into Mahindra's expanding SUV portfolio and appeal to buyers looking for a rugged, lifestyle-oriented SUV with genuine off-road capability and a distinctive road presence.
