Mahindra KUV100 launched at Rs 4.42 lakh

January 15, 2016, 11:27 AM IST by Sagar Bhanushali
Mahindra KUV100 launched at Rs 4.42 lakh

After unveiling it in December 2015, Mahindra has officially launched the KUV100 in India. Priced between Rs 4.42 lakh and Rs 6.76 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune), the KUV100 is Mahindra’s third compact utility vehicle offering after the Quanto and the TUV300.

The KUV100 is targeted at a younger audience and accordingly, Mahindra has gone for an aggressive yet striking approach for the design. As a result, the KUV100 looks rugged and has that utility vehicle-like stance despite its diminutive proportions.

Inside, the cabin design is fairly modern with a multi-layered dashboard, three-spoke steering wheel, vertically aligned air-con controls and the dash mounted gear lever. Thanks to a bench-type seating up front, the KUV100 can ferry up to six occupants. In terms of features, top-spec variants come with alloy wheels, headlights featuring LEDs, audio system with Bluetooth, USB and AUX connectivity, multifunction steering wheel, rear wiper, ambient lighting and some more.

In terms of drivetrain, the KUV100 features Mahindra’s newly developed mFalcon all-aluminium 1.2-litre series engines. The petrol mFalcon G80 unit develops 82bhp at 5500rpm and 114Nm of torque between 3500-3600rpm. Meanwhile, diesel models get the mFalcon D75 engine that develops 77bhp at 3725rpm and a healthy 190Nm of torque between 1750-2250rpm. These engines are paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. While there is no AMT gearbox on offer for now, Mahindra could add this convenient feature as an optional extra in near future.

The KUV100 is available in seven colours - fiery orange, flamboyant red, dazzling silver, aquamarine, pearl white, designer grey and midnight black. Now that it’s on sale, it competes with existing mid-size hatchbacks such as the Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Ford Figo.
