Lighter next generation Mercedes-Benz GLE under development

Mercedes will launch the new GLE next year and our latest spy-shots show that the brand is going full throttle to ready the model’s development. 

The entry-level GLE will weigh less than two tons and is rumoured to skip all-wheel drive in favour of a low weight. BMW is yet doing so and is offering its entry-level X5 with rear-wheel drive only. 

While getting a sharper and edgier design, better aerodynamics will lower the drag co-efficiency value from today’s 0.32 to 0.30. Refined and partly new engines are going to reduce the consumption all over the range by up to twenty per cent. The new GLE will compete against the likes of BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
