The R&D boss at Lamborghini, Maurizio Reggiani, has revealed that the brand’s first attempt at a hybrid will take the shape of the Urus, and is currently under development.
Lamborghini’s Urus SUV will be the only model to be electrified, and reports also state that the Huracan and Aventador would continue to serve with their naturally aspirated V10 and V12 engines. Not only will the Urus be the brand’s first hybrid, it will also hold the unique distinction of being Lamborghini’s first turbocharged model by using the 4.0-liter biturbo V8. A motor that’s absolutely necessary to generate the torque needed to lug this SUV.
Lamborghini has no plans for a diesel-powered Urus despite knowing that the torque requirements for the SUV can be easily satisfied. However, the brand could eventually offer a fully-electric model in the distant future thanks to the stringent emission standards. Lamborghini’s Urus is slated to roll out of their facility at Sant’Agata Bolognese in the north of Italy, and is expected to debut sometime in 2018.
